Earlier this week it was announced that NBC in America has signed a 10-year deal to broadcast the final 19 NASCAR Cup races and Nationwide races in America. Quite amazingly, NBC will be paying as much as 50 % more than what ESPN was paying.

Fox is paying $2.4 billion for a contract between 2015-2022 - NASCAR is milking it.

Anyway, more importantly, with ESPN not showing NASCAR from 2015 - where does that leave other motorsport coverage?

ABC (an ESPN channel) used to show every IndyCar race, but it got shunned when ESPN secured NASCAR rights in 2007.

It would be huge if IndyCar was permanently broadcasted on ABC or ESPN. ABC seem to have a permanent contract to show the Indy 500 and show other IndyCar races, but IndyCar needs to be on a channel like ABC to gain a profile.

Also, I wonder if ESPN would be interested in broadcasting some United Sports Car Series races?

NASCAR is arguably a huge drain on ESPN, with racing week-in, week-out. From 2015 they'll have more freedom to  show other motor sports which don't have so many races.

With regards to FOX, sadly SPEED won't be anymore from this Summer. The excellent motorsport/car dedicated channel will be closed and "Fox Sports 1" will be the replacement. Essentially it won't be a dedicated motorsport channel.

I am interested to see the TV package for United SportsCar Racing. Previously, SPEED would have been the default and logical choice for USR. However, FOX Sports 1 is going to be showing a lot of other sports as well apart from motorsport, so their capacity might be limited.

On the other hand, USR is technically NASCAR-owned - so they have a lot of interest in the series succeeding. Just like now, I think the TV rights will be distributed between 2 TV stations.
