Footage on Youtube showing the Allan Simonsen ran slightly wide onto kerbing and just lot control of the car and speared off to the left

**EDITED THIS POST TO REMOVE THE FOOTAGE OF THE ACCIDENT**

it was a bad crash, everything flew of the car including the doors, from what we saw he hit the barrier, it looks like he lost control & went straight on into the barrier.

looks a strange accident.

Since senna in 94 I've never been watching live when someone's been killed racing.†

It's weird, most time it would be races I'd be watching.†

Dan wheldon (he'd be 35 today) btw, I wasn't watching and didn't see.
Marco simoncelli they same thing
Shoya†tomizawa I missed that as well
Races I'd normally watched and others.

The real gutting thing for me is that I met Allan at Snetterton on Sunday had a good chat and autograph. Always an accommodating man!

Goodbye Allan Simonsen, you left us with a great Pole Position in Le Mans 24 Hours, you pushed till the end. Rest in Peace.

that video was acceptable in my opinion.

motor racing is dangerous, it always has been & always will be & that is what compels people to take part & spectate.

of course it is a sad day for motorsport but (i know you will think i am being harsh) these things happen, it was a pure accident, you have to look at it in a pragmatic way.

R.I.P Sad

No it's not, if there could be perfect safety it would prefer that.

Yes it might be in some peoples opinion but I personally know Allan and I don't want to be seeing that sort of thing knowing he had died after that accident

I suspect a lot of people would feel very uncomfortable about posting a video of someone dying - this is very understandable.

I was completely shocked at hearing about Allan Simonsenís death. RIP and condolences to his friends and family.

It is a crying shame that such a small error has resulted in such fatal consequences. He was merely on the exit kerb, but it must have been wet. He had no time to even save the rear; the rear stepped out very suddenly and couldnít do anything at that point.

TBH, a head-on impact like that is rare and will always be very nasty. The angle of that accident is everything, if the car had hit the barrier at another angle he might still be alive.†

The race itself has been excellent so far. The Audi looks to have the ultimate dry pace, but the Toyota looks better in damp conditions. There were occasions where the Audi and Toyota were side-by-side into the chicanes, but the Toyota clearly was better under braking and it pulled ahead. A lack of a turbo must help in slippery conditions, too.

The 991 has been very impressive against the much established and developed Vantage.†

These are the best type of Safety Car periods, SC periods for debris.

We just had a debris Safety Car, so now we have another one. Fantastic.†

In touring cars or NASCAR maybe but at Le Mans, no safety car is good because they use three of the f***ing things and break up the racing. Muppets. Code 60 aco, or one safety car or none or anything other than what they currently use. Aaaaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrgggggggggggghhhghgggggggggfkhat kwbownpabow lapspapwblsboaciw w

I donít mind 3 Safety Cars, as long as there are Safety Cars then thatís fantastic.

Iíve never understood the reasoning behind 3 Safety Cars, however. The ACO has seen the unjust consequences of it, but have still kept with it.

1 Safety Car is fine.

Also, the Safety Car driver cutting across the grass was a bit strange. Is the Safety Car driver trying to cause an accident himself...

With one safety car would it not be dangerous while the cars around the circuit catch up the safety car pack

Speed gun before the danger zone, at 60kph and through it and then run up to the back of the pack at a safe speed, below †150 kph until they catch the crocodile. Ever car has a transponder and there's multiply cameras everywhere. It's not dangerous.
