…Not an impossibility for 2014, it seems.

The calmer tones of F1's new-generation turbo V6 engines could be artificially enhanced, according to Bernie Ecclestone.
The F1 chief executive is worried the sport will lose some of its appeal to fans when next year's engines fail to live up to the dramatic noise of the current V8s.

I personally wouldn’t mind if the acoustics were tuned to sound a little nicer than naturally. Electronics are in one sense a wonderful thing; the engines could sound more dramatic than they actually do.

Some road cars have amplifiers. 10 % of the BMW M135i’s noise comes via the speaker’s, whilst that is a little fake, the car sounds bloody superb. It isn’t like the amplifier would make something shit sound brilliant e.g. like making a diesel sound like a Lamborghini V12 - the V6’s will probably sound nice – but I doubt they’ll be very loud.

The small child experiment must be used when testing. If the child runs off and gets scared - that's a very successful level of noise.

If its fake it devalues f1 yet more.

Drs (gimmick)
F duct (a cleaver and cheap idea and banned for no good reason)
Mass damper (banned during a season to help ferrari and Schumacher in '06)
Other fia ferrari help
Grooved tyres
Wings

Are a few examples.

It is fake, indeed; the V6’s should naturally be louder enough. At least with road cars, there is a valid reason for amplified noise. It helps bypass EU exhaust laws. Saying that, just like with the M135i road car, it wouldn’t make something crap suddenly sound good. The M135i sounds lush, but it just needs a little something extra to make it louder without the EU getting worked up.

The exhaust acoustics for road cars are commonly manipulated to pass regulations, so I'd imagine that the FIA might look at a similar solution...

I agree with that

I agree with that too.

Grooved tyres

They were ditched for 2009 onwards – no relevance

Wings

Eh? Apart from stock cars, there are not many high-tier racing cars which don’t have wings. If it's a more general point, fair play, but as a specific F1 point that's a bit strange.

The grooved Tyree's are a fixed miss step.

On the wings thing a Porsche 917 makes an Audi R18 or Toyota TS030 look a little shit. The guys who drove the 917 are and will always be hero's. The current guys need to do a lot more than driving to achieve the same thing.

I'm OK with f1 having wings but LMP 1 down shoundnt. Touring cars neither.

The v6's should just sounds the way they do. I'm sure they'll be just fine if a little quieter perhaps.

I quite like how the V6 IndyCar engines sound. However, they are a bit too quiet, certainly for F1 imo. A louder version of that might be very agreeable…

If you amplify the sound they might as well not use patrol engines. Make f1 all elector electric and just have a recording coming out of each car.
