It would seem logical. Honda are realising they have little choice but to turbo-charge their performance road cars, despite they prefer NA. Given that the 2014 rules not only allow for small capacity, turbo motors that are increasingly becoming popular, the electric gubbins will also appeal to the world's largest engine maker in the world.

As an expert in engines, Honda should stick to building engines - its what they know best.

I noticed that the McLaren' drivers overalls didn't have Mercedes-Benz lettering on the front, a sure sign that McLaren is truly a customer team with no special help.

A McLaren/Honda relationship could work quite well, perhaps it could extend to sharing technology/road car know-how for road cars? Critically unlike Mercedes, McLaren's road car offerings don't conflict with Honda's road cars.

It seems that Honda might well be returning to being an engine supplier for McLaren: http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/formula1/21655985

This would be very positive for Formula 1, as the world’s biggest engine supplier – there is something quite fitting about Honda and F1. Not only can Honda prove they’ve got the best V6, but the best turbocharger and the best electrical gubbins. Honda was well known to send their road car engineers to F1 races to learn stuff.

I wonder if Honda and McLaren will be looking at the HPD V6 IndyCar unit, as the engine parameters are fairly similar. Initially, HPD experienced difficulty with their IndyCar engine last year – early teething issues could be ironed out.

Funny thing is, word of Honda returning to F1 only surfaced when its MotoGP squad threatened to walk away from the series, when Dorna suggested making the Magnetti Marelli ECU unit mandatory in 2014.

The fact that this story's surfaced again (even after Honda committed to MotoGP by planning to sell a production version of its RC213V to non-factory teams for £800,000 next year), could be seen as a possible intent to return, rather than a by-product of a temper tantrum.
