HALF A BILLION VIEWERS WATCHED WTCC

Are you sure they didn't loose the will to live in the process?

How do WTCC know that half a billion watched, maybe they nodded off after lap 1? Unless WTCC spied in viewers' homes...hang on. Shocked Laughing

Had Yvan Muller not taken a few cars out over the season he would have won the title easily and would have been even more snoozy...it's a glorified National series, needs better looking cars (a la Superstars) and paid professionals, Huff, Muller, Menu, Giovanardi, etc shouldn't be struggling for a drive because they don't have a sponsor backing them, although that goes for all motorsport these days.

I agree with you. Muller was uncharacteristically clumsy in 2012. He punted a BMW at Sonoma when he would have overtaken later on, he tangled with Menu in Shanghai, then punted McDowell at Macau – sending the latter into a nasty crash.

It was interesting to see that Huff said that he drove better in 2011 than 2012. That is probably correct, as Huff did rely on Muller cocking up last year. That said, there is a lot to be said for a clean driver who stays out of trouble. In 2011, Huff got bashed by Tarquini too many times.

There is no doubt that WTCC needs to change. 2014 is too long away, because 2013 will be another painfully boring year. The cars need a minimum of six cylinder engines and at least 400 bhp, but minimum downforce.

Four cylinder engines are totally unacceptable for a supposed “world” series. WTCC engines also sound terrible – they need more music.

WTCC also sucks because drivers get penalties if they hit each other – this is touring car racing – bumper bashing is the norm! That’s what gets the fans excited and riled up. A little bumper banging, trading paint, fender bashing never harmed anybody – this is the appeal of tin-tops.

I shall watch the Monza races tomorrow and measure the snooziness, or will WTCC surprise me.

I thought that both Monza races were snoozy. There is nothing exciting about this championship; the drivers, the cars or the racing - BTCC beats WTCC hands down.

ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ.

Not even Safety Car Periods or double-file restarts can save WTCC.

WTCC was surprisingly entertaining this weekend. I must say, the Slovakiaring looks like a great track. It has some lovely sweeping sections and undulations that make cars light at the rear.

The new Honda Civic is now the fastest car in WTCC, but not excessively so. It was surprising to see Tom Coronel pulling away in the BMW 320 TC, that car is old compared to the Civic and Cruze – but it was fast in both races and victorious in race two.

There was some frantic racing between Muller, Huff and Gabriele Tarquini in race two.

Chilton should have never paired with Yvan. A bit like another Frenchman in F1, the Chilton’s are getting owned in WTCC and F1 by their respective teammates.

just watched the races, race 2 was very entertaining. As for the Chiltons, money over talent sadly AON backing courtesy of their father has kept both on track when their results have been eclipsed by others more deserving.

From what I recall, Tom Chilton wasn’t too bad in BTCC (with Arena in the old Civic, was it?). To be fair, the Focus he drove in WTCC was just slow and even Yvan Muller wouldn’t have made it fast. However, going up against Yvan Muller?

You need to be a Huff, Tarquini or Plato-type caliber driver to come out the other side with your reputation intact.

The Slovakiaring is a very wide track, so it does lend itself to great racing. Still, I can’t remember the last time that WTCC put on a real show.

Were Honda complaining that they were slow in a straight line? All I saw were Civic's inching away down straightaways...

Yikes, since when has WTCC become so exciting?

Both races at Moscow Raceway were thrilling. Race 2 saw the cars almost 4-wide on the pit straight, it didn’t last for very long as Thompson and Coronel got wiped out.

Always good to see Tarquini driving dirty as ever. Someone needs to give him a taste of his own medicine; this guy has been bashing and forcing drivers off track for too long.

It is surprising to see the speed of the E90 BMW. This is an ageing car, yet can still contend for wins. It just illustrates the quality that BMW Motorsport has produced.
