Quote :
The FIA today revealed details on modifications for the S2000 regulations set for introduction in 2014. The basics are more power, less weight and more aerodynamic devices on the cars.
The current performance balancing system will be scrapped for 2014, while the equalisation between front and rear wheel drive will remain.

Teams will also be allowed more technical freedom in order to make it easier to get rid of technical waivers between the different cars. The FIA pointed out that the changes will be made with the level of costs to remain the same.

As for more current changes, the FIA confirmed that Curitiba, Brazil, will not be on the calendar for next year. The complete calendar has not yet been confirmed, but will contain 12 races.

More power - good (although how much extra power will go through the front wheels?)

Less weight - don't mind.

More aerodynamic devices - holy cow, no way. What's the point of more power, if it cannot be noticed with more aerodynamic grip?

WTCC really needs massive, loud petrol V8 engines. For a "world" championship, it looks a bit pathetic to have four cylinder engines.

The basis of V8 Supercars would make a great world series...

There is no reason why wtcc shouldn't have v8. Stock block v8 rear drive cars 300 to 400 horse power, very little aero. If you can race a diesel seat Leon why not a v8 seat Leon?

Yes, don't V8 hatchback's exist in the Belgian Touring Car Championship?

For me, a "world" series needs to be special, and S2000 or similar cars don't provide much thrill. They are no different to many national series cars.

I like to think of Superstars as our V8 Supercars - that series is brilliant. Cool

There is a Belgian series that has silhouette that's run v8 (I think might be v6's). Cars that look like real ones with v8 engines is perfect for Motorsport not just wtcc but WRC and even some junior single seater series as 300 horsepower v8's are cheap Sony break so will do a season and are plenty powerful to make the racing good.

It is true that as long as cars look like production cars, that's all that matters in terms of brand recognition. V6's sound lovely, and I wouldn't mind V6 engines in WTCC. In trying to make the series so similar to road cars, they've made WTCC fairly boring and not very inspiring for a world series.

WTCC should look at Superstars. A lot of the marque's represented don't offer much or any factory support, but private teams have built cars such as the Jaguar XF and Audi RS5. Do I care whether most of the cars are from privateers? Not really, the variety and unusual array of machinery is an enticing aspect.

The manufacturer, works model is far weaker due to a turbulent European economy and less motorsport spending, Superstars and BTCC prove that new brands can enter without direct support.

In some WTCC news, Arena are shutting their doors: http://www.touringcartimes.com/article.php?id=8495

WTCC was a disaster for Arena, mind you - WTCC is rapidly becoming a disaster as well. Wink

WTCC is looking at a 'push-to-pass' system: http://www.touringcartimes.com/article.php?id=8494

Eh? The only 'push to pass' system you need in a touring car is the front bumper. Razz
