I think this partnership is more than a rebrand; it’s about making Red Bull a more complete team. Red Bull has just won their third consecutive titles, but the vast majority of their success has hinged on aerodynamic superiority.

They lack expertise in electric powertrain and recovery systems, clearly shown by their struggles with KERS. Recovery and electrical units will play a far greater role in 2014 than KERS does. Partnering with Nissan will be an important alliance, as the powertrain’s of F1 cars considerably change. With the R&D that Nissan are pouring into electric and recovery systems, Red Bull can feed off that.

When KERS debuted on the McLaren-Mercedes Benz MP4-24, Mercedes played a big part in developing the system – this was when Mercedes was a works partner to McLaren. It shows how independent teams can benefit from a mass car makers’ know-how.

Tbh, the “Infiniti” tag is nothing more than a name tag, this is about a technical partnership that means Red Bull can tackle any change in rules, and broadens their range of strengths.

Ferrari and McLaren are well equipped for 2014, because of the engineering giants they’ve developed into. Red Bull has been excellent at developing their chassis’ and aero, but 2014 will have a lot more factors. Being able to play a role in development of Renault’s V6 is another plus-point.

No doubt it'll give them a stronger foothold on the technical front than in previous years, especially now with KERS playing a big part in F1, as well as the other changes coming in 2014.
