Wow, what a superb landing. Rallying really can be entertaining to watch, for the wrong reasons.#

Btw, IRC is becoming a European series next year.Thank goodness for that, rallying was already vulnerable, to have two series offering the same thing was asking for a death wish.

Rallying is a very small part of a very small sport. But at times can be massively popular.

The rules however need to be:

Rear wheel drive
About 300 horse power
Night stages
And live tv

Classic rallying actually gets decent crowds to watch people slide mk2 ford escorts because they look spectacular.

Oh, I absolutely agree with you. Motors TV often show Irish rallying, and seeing the old Escortís slithering about is a joy to watch. Sadly, todayís car market is influencing rallying like never before. Car makers want to promote superminiís and other hatchbacks, the vast majority of which are FWD or 4WD.

Ideally, WRC and IRC would be limited to RWD coupes. Iím thinking the Mazda MX5, Toyota GT 86, Subaru BRZ, Porsche Cayman, BMW 1-Series Coupe, Mercedes C-Class Coupe, and the upcoming Alfa Romeo 4C. Rallying has slowly gravitated to solely having hatchbacks, and is the sport any better for it?

Keep costs down, but allow six cylinder engines. The engines could be limited in power, as you say, but having a Porsche flat six or BMW straight six would make it so much more interesting. Basically, the rules for engines and cars need a complete rethink.

Live TV has made the IRC quite appealing. Eurosport to their credit started to show Monte Carlo live, and rallying instantly became more engaging from that point on. No major sport can survive on microwaved highlights, the action needs to be right there, right now for the most captivating experience.
