I don't think Hamilton could have expected it even with Pastors history. Maldonado hit Hamilton because he ran up the kerbs while fighting a battle that he couldn't win in that corner, it wasn't a case of Maldonado trying to get Hamilton, so in that case you jsut have to keep racing and thats what Hamilton tried to do.

With the Vernge incident, it was very interesting what Martin Brundle said about drivers trying to immediate their opponents, hoping they’ll lift off or brake. He supposedly experienced the same sort of move at La Sarthe.

Vettel on Webber at Turkey, anyone? One driver tries to crowd another hoping they will back off.

there is another way to look at this. Lewis was fighting for two points and lets be honest Maldonardo as well as occasional brilliance is also a bit of a nutter. In which case what was Lewis expecting when he forced Maldonardo off the track?

There's no doubt that it was Maldonardo's fault, but if He'dlet him go he would have got 11 points ? instead he has none. Alonso would have done.

That is a good point; Lewis lost a lot of points over trying to retain that position. Occasionally, knowing who you race against is important, and whether you can trust them or not.

However, Lewis didn’t force Maldonado off the track in a particularly aggressive way. Hamilton drove on the racing line, and Maldonado simply ran himself out of room. Pastor got alongside Lewis because he could brake later, but he shouldn’t have expected a fellow competitor to roll out the red carpet afterwards.

Also, Maldonado races in a very worrying and strange way. His deliberate contact with others, and this incident was totally uncalled for. His errors are not typical or harmless, despite the clueless act he plays in interviews.

Maldonado needs to be put on probation, imo. I didn’t realise that the FIA accepted such blatantly vengeful, amateur-like driving.
In hindsight, Hamilton’s mission to retain the position now looks short-sighted. However, his positioning of the car was no different to anyone else on that weekend. Maldonado would have breezed past Hamilton anyway, which makes his desperation even more unjustifiable.

Wow, that sounds great. With Sky though, you can watch it almost any time you want with their repeats.
