PostSubject: 2012 GP2 race thread   Tue Mar 20, 2012 7:53 am

GP2 starts this weekend at Sepang, Malaysia. The European series and short Asian series have been merged, meaning GP2 races in locations such as Malaysia, Bahrain and Singapore on F1 race weekends; as well as racing in traditional European countries.

Sky Sports F1 will show every single session live throughout the GP2 season, which is a first for UK GP2 TV coverage. I'm really looking forward to seeing GP2 on a consistent basis, not Eurosport who didn't care less.

2012 GP2 entry list:

Barwa Addax Team

1 – Johnny Cecotto, Jr
2 – Josef Kral

DAMS

3 – Davide Valsecchi
4 – Felipe Nasr

GP2 races are wild and almost out of control, that’s why I like them. GP2 around Singapore is going to be one for hiding behind the sofa.

yes indeed I can't wait. I hope there isn't too many safety cars the racing especially on very old tyres was great last year.

Is there an entry list anywhere about.

An entry list has been added to the opening post. Smile

The way GP2 drivers race, they are most likely to create safety car periods! I do agree though, seeing some drivers wear out their tyres was very entertaining.

I'm a pure James Colado fan and hope for him to win.

I'm liking that Caterham and Lotus have GP2 teams.

Shame I won't see the Malaysian GP as I'm not in York - no sky tv.

It was strange to hear Will Buxton essentially talking to himself in qualifying. I understand that Custard will join Buxton in the booth for both races.

Gonzalez appeared to hit everything but the Pace Car in that race, holy cow. After he had a stab at hitting almost every competitor he raced against, he decided to make contact with the tyre barrier – oops.

Race two was boring for me, not much going on in that race. Shame the flipping car didn't bring out the Caution.

Lotus branding is as silly as the Red Bull branding was in the 90's

I think ART is a better name.

The row’s over Lotus and general plastering of the brand bemuses me. Lotus is a good name, but it’s not that legendary. Their business plan for their passenger cars is a pipe dream.

Just the one fact that Lotus bought out ART's half of the shares.
Anyway Lotus being local to me means I look to see what they're doing.

What’s happening to the supposed new Esprit? Is Lotus still planning to make bespoke engines for passenger cars? Lotus worries me because they unveiled some pretty ambitious plans about three years ago, detailing how they were pitching products at Porsche/Ferrari customers, building their own engines etc. But, none of this seems even close to coming reality.

Lotus is in danger of being like Noble: premium pricing without premium products.

I think they spent all the money on f1 or the Malaysians backers were having trouble. Not the proton bit but the other Malaysians
