UK round dropped, no need for them to come here when BTCC is far more popular and Chevy race in it as well, lets hope they build a NGTC car to carry on.

Sav will be happy that they return to Marrakesh for the safety car round, at least Chevy wont win one round!!

I see, so what the WTCC is saying is that the UK and Germany are not important markets and have few motorsport fans. Instead, it's far better to visit Spain and Portugal where the economies are in deep crisis. Right then...

I love the return of Marrakech, you can always rely on a safety car period there. I missed that round this year after the sheer chaos in 2010.

I like the addition of Infineon Raceway, I wonder which configuration they will use? The short NASCAR course or the long IndyCar course along the drag strip? I hope they don’t use the long course, it has too many turns and not enough braking zones. The short course would make for entertaining races. Why don't WTCC use the full track at Suzuka? There is no point in going to Suzuka and not using the glorious full circuit.

I think that this inconsistent and bizarre calendar won’t help WTCC regain its appeal, a fairly boring and weak championship has just got a little more uninteresting.

Honda intends to enter WTCC in 2013 with their new Civic, they may enter the Japanese, Chinese and Macau rounds this season:

http://www.touringcartimes.com/article.php?id=7166

I suppose this is good news for WTCC, because having Chevrolet as the only factory-backed outfit makes the series weak. Honda’s production cars have become boring and uncompetitive in recent years, and they’ve lost market share as a result – I think this project will try and banish those thoughts.

The new Seat Leon is being launched in the near future, so I think the WTCC bosses will be convincing Seat to return as a full works effort. Although Seat’s priority may not be motorsport, it may be just to survive and sustain reasonable car sales. Even with Honda’s announcement, I still think that WTCC will be weak and boring to watch. Having Chevrolet and Honda isn’t exactly a startling line-up of manufacturers for a series so reliant on car makers and a “world” championship.

touring cars only work in national markets, maybe regional markets but not world wide

I agree, some production models are also more popular in some markets than in others – so promoting a particular product might be wasteful in some countries. WTCC must be banking on other car makers adopting Ford’s global model concept, so a car makers model is recognised in all markets.

it's my opion that gt4 regulations should be adopted by wtcc

corvettes, aston martins, porsche and maserati, lotus etc but run to a low spec for good racing and yet they don't change from market to merket.

I think that could work, from a personal perspective it is much more entertaining to see powerful RWD cars slide a little than FWD cars which aren’t tail-happy. BTCC is bit like a road course version of NASCAR, with all the bumping and banging – that’s entertaining. WTCC doesn’t have that action so is ultra snoozy.

Slovakia ring GT3 race last year the track looked ok, certainly better than the snoozefest that Marrakesh is (unless you're Sav of course)

The problem for WTCC, is that BTCC and other national championships embarrass it. BTCC is much more entertaining than WTCC, heck, BTCC has more car variety than the latter. I don’t think it’s enough for WTCC to be a “World Championship”, it’s not enough of a USP.

V8 Supercars and DTM have something a little special, in technical terms. WTCC mainly consists of 4 cylinder FWD cars – too boring for a “world” championship”.

Those Group A cars are way more interesting. Didn’t the BTCC Sierra RS500 have 500 + bhp? WTCC needs RWD cars with loads of BHP and beastly engines – NA V8’s.

Back in '87 WTCC besides the Sierra Cosworths and BMW M3's (different classes btw) in the top class were also hopeless Toyota Supra turbos, Maserati Biturbos (or was that BTCC, again, they were hopeless) in class 2 with the M3's were Mercedes 190E's and Alfa 75's and in the baby class was the Toyota Corolla. If i can find my Spa 24 Hours programme it will give a more accurate idea.

What a great variety of interesting cars. I understand why most tin-top series in Europe have migrated to smaller engine, more mainstream cars – but it would be excellent to see V8 Jaguar XF’s, BMW V8 Saloons, Mercedes etc. Now all we have to look forward to are four-pot Honda Civic’s and Seat Leon’s.

BTCC has brilliant racing, but it would be nice to see more prestigious cars/brands. I’m sure a BTCC with RWD V8 Saloons would also be entertaining. The bodies of the cars could be factory based, but there could be on-the-shelf V8’s ready to buy – like the NGTC solution. So its not like having V8's would cost a fortune if the blocks were standardised.

WTCC used to have the E46 320i which had a straight six, even that was interesting because it wasn’t a four pot.

It will be another woefully dull year of WTCC, but, it might be interesting to see how Chilton and the Ford Focus get's on. I see the exact Infineon Raceway layout has yet to be revealed, I really hope they use the short NASCAR course - ideal for bumper and fender banging.
