It's ok I suppose, it seems interesting, but the battle at the front seems to be helping there Smile

well done to michael shank racing, I would have liked starworks to win, but this is still a good reason. I'm just happy ganassi and there factory effort got beaten by the privateers.

What a superb motor race that was. I am really pleased to see Justin Wilson winning, he needed some success after his aborted 2011 campaign.

The battle between AJ Allmendinger and McNish was outstanding; I didnít see why McNish was complaining. He drove AJ off into the dirt then smacked AJ in the door on the banking, maybe he should look at his own driving before complaining about others.

I think AJ Allmendinger was the driver of the race. McNish is a fine road course racer and races road courses as his day job, AJ doesnít. For a driver so accustomed to ovals now, the way he positioned his car and set-up overtaking manoeuvres was very impressive. His best overtake was on the restart when he passed Pruett on the outside of turn 1 Ė holy cow that was tight. I never knew Allmendinger could drive so damn well. He was good in Champ Car, but nothing like the way he drove today.

I think this offers the best endurance racing on offer, to have cars in classes bumping and racing for position after 16 hours is brilliant and engaging. After all, we watch motor racing for hard racing and battles Ė not to watch a bunch of cars multiple laps down and cars miles away from each other.

Absolutely. People watch motor racing for close racing, so the caution is a great way of ensuring that happens.

The cautions really spiced up the show and ensured the fans saw real racing for real positions, the Rolex 24 and Grand-Am always offers such outstanding racing. Maybe other enduro series should do what Grand-Am does; they let some lapped cars regain the lead lap. That means there are more cars racing for actual position rather than just trying to unlap themselves. Ultimately, I want to see cars racing Ė donít care how its achieved.

I donít think there were enough cautions though, 15 is impressive but nowhere near as good as the record Ė 25 cautions.

Now that AJ Allmendinger is driving Roger Penskeís Dodge Chargerís in NASCAR, he now has the machinery to be successful in his day role.

Those Audi R8's looked like they were driving under oil slicks, they were all over the race track - literally.

That really was quite a race, roll on alms and Sebring. It's going to need to be something to be better than this was.

Grand-Am has always been great, but the arrival of the Ferrariís, Audiís and more star drivers is really giving this series clout. I cannot wait for the rest of the Grand-Am season. Itís weird yet wonderful to have Camaroís, RX-8ís and Mustangís racing against more exotic cars like 458ís and 911ís.

When SPEED where reporting on pit road, the DPís make engine noises to die for. Yummy. When motor racing has become so saturated and hard to differentiate from different series, Grand-Am has found a very good niche.

Allmendinger has the car to win the Daytona 500, Penskeís machinery is prepared as well as the best, and those Dodge engines are probably the most powerful in NASCAR. But, the Daytona 500 is a complete lottery. A nobody called Trevor Bayne managed to win it last year, who only had one previous NASCAR Cup start.

Tony Stewart, an incredible driver is still trying to win the race after 12 years of trying. The Daytona 500 is about being in the right place at the right time. I have no doubt that AJ will win his maiden Cup race though, now that heís driving a decent car.

I wonder if anybody has won the Rolex 24 and Daytona 500 in the same year. What an amazing achievement that would beÖ

I think its only AJ foyt and Mario Andretti to win both.

Mario andretti
1967 Daytona 500 winner
1972 24 Hours of Daytona winner.

AJ foyt
1972 Daytona 500 winner
1983,1985 24 Hours of Daytona winner

so AJ could do a first! and what a first it would be!

Ah yes, I knew AJ Foyt had won the Rolex 24 but not Mario Andretti as well. Marioís Daytona 500 win was his sole NASCAR Cup win Ė a good job too because itís the most important NASCAR race.

Winning both for Allmendinger in the same year would be simply epic. AJ needs to make sure he survives until lap 198 then he can go and chase the win. Getting involved in a race-ending wreck is very easy.

Nice piece on AJ Allmendinger here: http://www.nascar.com/video/speed/race-hub/120202/speed-hub-allmendinger/index.html

Go and get em AJ, get in the Chase and who knows what will happen from there. My respect for AJ increased enormously after the Rolex 24 drive.
