I think the addition of more established sportscars in Grand-Am is going to bolster the series even further. Grand-Am is by far the most entertaining sportscar racing, the ultimate speed of cars does not dictate interesting or close racing. The cars in both classes may be slower than other more sophisticated machinery, but when the racing is so good – it really doesn’t matter.

Grand-Am’s GT class has a great variety of machinery; with BMW M3’s, Chevrolet Camaro’s, Corvette’s, Ford Mustang’s, Mazda RX-8’s and now Ferrari 458’s and R8’s. I like that Grand-Am recognises that sportscars aren’t all about high-end cars; the unique sound of the RX-8 and the variety of less prestigious cars makes the GT class one of the best.

infact the slower the cars are the entertaining the racing is.

I do like grand am, but I do wish the cars weren't so preformance balanced as the are and i wish it wasn't nascar owned.

you do know the rx8 is jst a shell right? smae for the Camaro. A lot of pontiac gto's became madza's and camero's. It dosen't matter than much i suppose.

But, being NASCAR-owned means Grand-Am can race at some pretty cool circuits, like Watkins Glen and the Daytona Road Course. I also find it fascinating when NASCAR drivers try a road course-based series.

I think the brand's racing are more important than the underneath, I cannot see that. Especially when the Mazda's screaming piston-free motor and the General Motors V8 sound so different.

i like the tracks and actually i'm kind of fine with the shell bodies, something nascar should be doing. take the grand am camero and make that the chevy nascar would be cool.

But the France family are evil and they don't care about grand am anyway, if alms didn't exist neither would grand am and I find that annoying.

I could live happily with either alms or grand am. But why do we need both?

I think ALMS is more sophisticated and technology driven, whereas Grand-Am vehicles in both classes aren’t very sophisticated and feature more domestic brands with some lower calibre sportscars. But I think that appeals to domestic crowds, to see Mustang’s and Camaro’s racing.

Both championships in my opinion offer very entertaining racing, ideally both would be merged and ALMS is so good that it doesn’t have to remain a donkey for Le Mans testing. Grand-Am has access to some great tracks, and vice versa with ALMS, combine the two and you have an epic schedule – Daytona and Sebring both in the same.

Surely that second car isn't allowed to have a driver line up lick that?

Dixon, Franchitti, Montoya and McMurry is just silly.

It is silly in the sense that the second car doesn't have any full-time Grand-Am drivers. But, one of the highlights of the Daytona 24 Hours is seeing drivers from other disciplines take on the endurance race. Now, you would ordinarily never get Dale Earnhardt, Jimmie Johnson or an IndyCar driver to complete a sportscar race or road course series…with the exception of this race.

The number 2 driver line-up finished second in last year’s race, so they clearly know how to get it done. Especially with some of the drivers being former winners, like Montoya. Hope BMW Power can once again win on the high banks of Daytona.

That’s fantastic news, this is the type of racing that Motors TV should have shown ages ago – great championships that other broadcasters don’t care about. I’ve wanted to see live Grand-Am races on TV for a long time now; it will make a pleasant change from Eurosport’s crappy Daytona 24 Hours coverage.

I was watching the V8 Supercar Series review yesterday, and Motors were advertising live Daytona 24 Hours and Grand-Am. Really cannot wait to see a Grand-Am season on TV, it's been a long time coming.

A Ford engine, oh dear, hopefully it blows up.

The all new Porsche 991 is going to pace the Daytona 24 Hours, I think we should have a caution just to see this outstanding new car.

Which won't happen. With the new cars, the competition in DP is going to be less intense than it was in previous years. Ganassi is one of few teams that has a large budget and top-line personnel to understand the new car the best.

In 24 hour racing anything is possible, they are the favourites but that by no means means is a vettel situation and and and
The cars are basically the same with new body work.

Motors TV have confirmed the times that they’ll be showing the Rolex Daytona 24 Hours from:

28th January – 29th January: 19:30 pm – 03:30 am
Continues on 29th: 14:00 pm – 20:30 pm

It’s simply brilliant that Motors TV are showing this race, obviously they relying on what Speed show. Which itself is most of the race at sociable hours for Europeans. I'm looking foward to live Grand-Am in general, the improved quality of DP's and new cars in GT is going to improve the series even more.

Paul Tracy to drive for Doran in Rolex 24: http://auto-racing.speedtv.com/article/grand-am-tracy-joins-doran-for-rolex-24

Yay, you always need Paul Tracy to ruffle a few feathers and create a little mayhem. He should use that front bumper to dump people. Tracy is a fun clown to have on the track. Only one week to go now. Smile
