Could just use that car, good point though
Renault can build a very good V6 look at the Clio and the early Lagunas, think with engine sizes getting smaller this will probs help Renault as they just don't build big engines normally only time will tell I suppose

Renault has got a lot of experience with V6's, and from Nissan with the GT-R having a turbocharged V6 motor. Renault gain a lot of exposure now for doing a lot less, they get the credit when Red Bull wins for powering their chassis'.

With Infiniti now having major sponsorship with Red Bull, the Renault Group is furthering its relationship with them. With official marketing, branding and technical support coming from Renault – RBR is becoming the unofficial factory team for the French maker. That will become very important in 2014 if Renault decide to tailour the V6's characteristics with what RBR want.

BTW, Calden said that all F1 cars will be powered by Renault except for Mercedes...I never knew that Ferrari are ditching their own engines. Laughing

Hahaha Ferrari might bin the idea of building there own engine and just buy one off Renault. But yeah this seems to be the way the French maker are going just get into the current dominant car with factory backing and there you are a pre built factory team, thing is Renault has seen this coming for years seemingly and just sold off the the team they had and move on into a team thats already at the front. I hope the other teams with Renault power catch up and the whole front of the F1 grid is Renault powered, sadly though I don't think that'll happen, was a nice thought though

Why are Mercedes in Formula 1, suppling engines makes sense but as a constuctor teams when all the others left

whats worse is there not fast enough and will be even further off the pace when Red Bull's, Ferrari's and Mclarens's spending goes back up next year which Mercedes won't be able to do as the Mercedes board (probably) won't let them.

I still don't understand that myself, it's great for the sport but I don't how fully owning a team is beneficial. With McLaren, they were and still are getting cars covered in Mercedes logo's and branding - and when they finish ahead of the works Mercedes - the latter just looks second best.

Yeah its always seemed a strange one, Mercedes run a full team yet its slower than a car they just supply engines to, I know i'm going back to Renault but that made sence get rid of the full team and just supply engines to the front running Red Bulls that way they are still at the front just not a full works team but then the Red Bulls look better anyway

Mercedes-Benz is probably hoping that some high profile hiring of personnel will allow the team to contend for Grand Prix victories. They were badly hindered by rear tyre degradation this year. Schumi almost got a podium in Canada, but got mugged by Button and Webber at the end. Relying on podiums in freak circumstances is not great.

That question really lies on the competence of Nico Rosberg, as Schumi has been slower than him for two seasons now. If Rosberg is in the right situation with the right car, I believe he can win. Although the cars he has driven at Mercedes have been much more competitive than the machinery he drove at Williams, he hasn't driven a car that can really contend for a victory.

Mercedes want Germans winning, for the home market.... I doubt McLaren have any interest in going German, such is their British heritage, so either Mercedes needs to supply engines to another team who WOULD have an "all German" policy, or run their own.

Seems to make sense to me...

True, Mercedes-Benz wanted an all-German line up for their own team. But it’s not like McLaren had a British driver only policy, with Hakkinen, Raikkonen, Montoya and Kovalainen – they were proactive in hiring the best drivers at the time. If Mercedes wanted an all-German line up so badly, I wonder why they exclusively provided engines for McLaren for 15 years or so. Their direction may now have changed, but in that period of Mercedes having a 40 % stake in McLaren – the closest a German got to driving a Silver Arrows was Nick Heidfeld as a test driver.

I suppose Daimler makes huge revenues and profits, and their business has only got stronger with emerging markets – so £100 million or so a year doesn’t seem that much in the grand scheme of things.

Very possibly Calden. Razz I'm still bemused at where Kimi was going. This isn't a rally course or something, the track layout is pretty simple...well it should be anyway.

I "like" the concept of driving through a random pitlane to get back on track... I mean, the support races could (presumably) have still been packing up their gear... ??

They'd have presumably got very excited at Kimi driving past them... "Hello Kimi!! Nice to see you...."

You are joking, but at Spa, Bahrain and Korea that's actually feasible with how the support series have their own pit lanes. Laughing
