I don't mind the no movement rule for very short races, like touring cars but in indycar it was stupid.

Now that Bobby Rahal has signed Sato, he wants to run another car: http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/97440

Yay, IndyCar needs true enthusiasts like Bobby. Even with the new car and engines, the grid count is looking healthy for St Petersberg - around 25 entries.

The Milwaukee Mile has officially been added to the 2012 schedule, the race will take place on Saturday, 16th June: http://www.indycar.com/news/show/55-izod-indycar-series/51158-milwaukee-added-as-16th-race/

I cannot wait to see IndyCar racing around this short, flat oval. The action will be frantic, I can only hope for more flat 1 mile ovals in 2013, because Iowa is the only other type of circuit. Richmond may return next year.

Glad that Carpenter has set-up his own team, but with the schedule being road/street course dominated – he might look like a lost cause…

Oh well, glad he’s running Chevrolet motors.

Standing starts might be introduced at road courses:

and indicated that standing starts could be introduced for some events later in the year.

That would be brilliant; standing starts tests the nerves and reaction times of the drivers. Champ Car introduced them in 2007, with a new car and had few problems.

It will also be less messy because the new V6’s have anti-stall devices like F1 cars.

Sarah Fisher used to run Chevrolet engines when they were last in IndyCar. Randy Bernard somehow needs to ensure that SFR are on the grid in St Petersburg, the series cannot afford to turn down loyal people to IndyCar.

The interesting thing about Sarah Fisher, is that she has achieved about the same as Danica did in IndyCar – yet the former doesn’t get all the attention. Both ran okay on ovals and were poor on road courses – I’m struggling to see the difference.

I really am curious to see how Barrichello performs at KV Racing. He’ll have to adapt to pretty hairy double-file restarts on road/street courses and short ovals, but I think Rubens will instantly be competitive. The lapped traffic on short ovals usually dazzles any driver, let alone a “rookie”, but he should get the handle of Texas and Fontana pretty quickly. There isn’t much to learn for a driver like him on those tracks – keep the accelerator pressed down lol.

Barrichello and Alesi in the Indianapolis 500, who would have imagined that

There was a report that Sarah Fisher was struggling to get engines, she's signed a deal with Honda for engine supply.

Hope Rubens does well.

IndyCar says he won't be considered a rookie but will still be eligible for 'Rookie of the Year' honours at the Indy 500.

There is one aspect that may catch out Rubens. European-based racing is fairly straight forward in the sense that if you have the fastest car, you’ll probably win the race with few complications. American circuit racing has a lot of accidents and therefore cautions, that can mix things up and sometimes the fastest driver doesn’t win. Oval racing will see fuel strategy playing a part too, that’s something that Rubens isn’t used to.

Rubens will adapt to the driving without much of a problem, it’s the nature of American racing that may catch him out.

It may seem too early to talk about 2013, but Randy Benard has said that 19 or 20 races might be possible: http://auto-racing.speedtv.com/article/indycar-2013-schedule-set-to-expand/

Austin, Fort Lauderdale, Phoenix, Pocono, Road America, Portland and Richmond are interested parties. I think it would be great for Road America, Richmond, Phoenix and Pocono return to IndyCar. The flat ovals are particularly important if the schedule is going to be more balanced between RD’s and ovals.

Seeing IndyCar around Pocono would be weird, the front stretch is extremely wide but the turns are flat and relatively tight. I think they should try it.

Aparantly, ponoco was built as an indycar track, I think this is very good news. I like where this and indycar are going.

I agree that IndyCar can have a bright future. The DW12 has been well received from what I’ve seen, the Barber race was well attended and first timers like hard-core F1 fans liked it. The DW12 looks so much racier than the horrible old Dallara.

Not sure about the history of Pocono, but IndyCar/CART ran there for many years until 89. It is an odd track being triangle-shaped, with three distinctly different turns. I think the variety of corners makes it really interesting, and the lack of banking suits IndyCar cars. The lack of banking would see the cars on edge, and it would be a great test for drivers.

Houston was announced to be on the 2013 calender, you'll remember the old Champ Car street track.

There’s a rumour frenzy right now, the Chinese street event has been cancelled. So far, here is the line-up of potential replacements:

Another race at Texas Motor Speedway
Michigan International Speedway
Phoenix International Raceway
Laguna Seca
Watkins Glen
Road America
Pocono

It should be added that a replacement would probably be the season-finale. Personally, I think IndyCar should conclude at the newly repaved Pocono Raceway. I like the road course suggestions, but IndyCar needs to conclude on an oval to attract interest. Plus, a Pocono season finale would be months away from the last NASCAR race – meaning IndyCar won’t be hopelessly competing with them.

Pocono would produce stunning racing, and if they run with the Texas downforce levels again, the drivers would have to properly lift off for the corners. Especially as turn 2 and 3 at Pocono are virtually flat. Phoenix would be great too, but any potential date would be way too close to NASCAR.

Bet Will Power isn’t happy about China being cancelled – haha.

Texas has now declared they won’t be hosting the replacement race. Michigan has been touted as a strong contender. The NASCAR Cup cars are at Michigan this weekend, and they’re averaging over 200 mph for lap times – and approaching 220 down the straightaways. The repaving is seeing incredible speeds.

If IndyCar was to run there, they better cut the downforce even more so they have to crack the throttle. Otherwise they’ll be flat for the whole way around, or excess tyre wear could slow them down in the turns.

I still want Pocono, though.

A 16 race won’t be added, instead, the season finale at Fontana has been extended to 500 miles. I’m rather looking forward to that, with how loose the cars get as the tyres wear out, it will be a tricky 500 miles.
