^^^ Unless he brings money, I don't see what Bryan Herta sees in Tagliani. He wrecked a lot of times last year with few decent results.

James Hinchcliffe has signed with Andretti Autosport for this season: http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/96930

I’m really pleased about this; Hinchcliffe will be in decent equipment with great Chevrolet motors behind him. He’s another one of those Di Resta types, he has such little experience yet is so fast. He only drove in Indy Lights and Atlantics, it’s not like he drove in Champ Car.

Hinch had his best finishes on road/street courses and ovals, showing he can be fast on any type of track.

There's no doubt that Hinchcliffe deserves a from running ride in Indycar

Plus he's always got a career in the commentary box if he hasn't got a drive.

An interesting line-up for Dragon Racing, run by Roger Penske’s run, Jay. Sebastien Bourdais and Katherine Legge: http://auto-racing.speedtv.com/article/indycar-bourdais-legge-set-to-form-two-car-dragon-racing-team/

That’s an interesting combo, I think Bourdais will be very strong on the road courses after adapting well to the Dallara last year. Katherine Legge posted some decent results with the old Champ Car, but seemed to struggle with the DP01 – this is a new opportunity for her.

Despite IndyCar’s schedule has taken a hit, the driver calibre is still high.

Bourdais wasn't bad on ovals in his champcar days either. It wasn't until the last year that they went away from oval racing.

The DP01 was supposedly a challenging car to drive.

A date of 17th June has been set too. It’s an awesome track and one of the best ovals.

First sound of the new 2.2 litre V6 turbo engines here – the Chevrolet engine:

That sounds great considering the loss of two cylinders, the mixture of a hard growl and slight whistling turbo engines doesn’t sound so bad. Petrol turbo’s with six cylinders or more can be tuned to sound good.

Rubens Barrichello to test a KV Racing IndyCar at Sebring: http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/97180

Hmm, the idea of Barrichello and Jean Alesi in the Indianapolis 500 is very appealing.

Most American-bred drivers go to NASCAR because there are good junior categories and finance to support them – in comparison to junior open wheel categories in the USA. Drivers like Rahal and Hunter-Reay are good, but IndyCar needs more of them. I think the lack of American drivers is a huge problem for IndyCar, because without that the series will never become a mainstream series again.

Virtually all NASCAR drivers are American – and their success and growth speaks for itself. General Motors supplying engines in IndyCar should help build domestic interest, running about in nothing but Honda power plants didn’t help matters.

nascar used to be the minor motorsport for red necks, double wide anything is very red neck. But when open wheel racing imploded nascar saw it's chance and took over.

One the reasosns nascar has so many young americans heading that way, obviously is the money, which is old fashioned start money. Rather than the track paying the series like f1 or anything else european. The track used to give a certain amount of money to teams and drivers entering the races. When Bernie and co decided they wanted all the money it pretty much killed any opportunity for motorsport to survive without pay drivers and big sponsors.

Actually for motorsport the banning of tabacco sponsorship has been a really bad thing. It's hurting the sport massively.

You say that, but NASCAR only introduced double-file restarts in 2008 – a long time after NASCAR became a mainstream sport.

The stability of NASCAR is partly due to the fact that most tracks it visits are NASCAR-owned, or owned by pro-NASCAR people. It’s a unique aspect of the sport, because most other series require tracks to pay a sanctioning fee – in F1’s case that fee is extraordinary. There are high profile sponsors spending millions to back drivers and teams, this dictates what happens in lower stock car series. If drivers and junior team members can see there is healthy money to go stock car racing, then it will obviously be a popular choice.

NASCAR was heavily reliant on Tobacco advertising with its title sponsor “Winston”, but it’s adapted very well with “Nextel” and now “Sprint” taking over. Both are telecommunication companies.

Ironically, NASCAR’s healthy sponsorship also helps IndyCar teams. Verizon and Shell decided to become associate sponsors for Penske’s IndyCar’s, after signing primary sponsorship deals in Penske’s NASCAR operation.

Ah, got you.

BTW, Robin Miller from Speed openly states that Milwaukee is on this year's schedule. It just needs to be announced. Another flat, short oval = result.

Holy cow, Rubens was braking super late into those corners and stabbling the throttle very early whilst exiting corners - he wasn't messing about. Maybe Rubens can be successful in IndyCar, even if he was good the crappy Williams he drove didn't allow him to display his skills. I dunno, I would like to see another American youngster - but you cannot fault Rubens motivation - evidently displayed there.

BTW, that Lotus V6 sounded superb. Loved the off-throttle sound in particular.

Manufacturer points will be awarded on a race-by-race basis and added throughout the season to crown a Manufacturer Champion between Chevrolet, Honda and Lotus. The highest-finishing engine manufacturer earns 9 points; the second highest-placing manufacturer earns 6 points and the third-highest manufacturer receives 4 points.

Like the sound of that, nothing like a bit of automobile maker rivalry. I'm glad there will be quicker communication between teams and officials.

I hope the stewards don't come down tough on the drivers. Some drivers had serious brain-fade at Toronto last year, but it was great fun to watch. I say the stewards should let drivers regulate themselves, if they've got a problem; take it up with the offending driver - don't go an bitch to some steward. I want to see the drivers have a fight and bitch on TV - it may just drive up TV ratings. IndyCar needs to ramp up the show - on and off the track.

thats fine for touring cars and nascar but in open wheel racing that gets people killed

perhaps f1 needs to adopt stock cars and then play rockem sockem race cars in adu dhabi and bahrain. It'd be more exciting.

I like Barfield’s stance on blocking. It’s crazy to regulate how drivers position their cars, making a defensive move is part of racing imo. A driver wants to get past, and the driver under pressure takes measures to prevent that – it’s always been like that. If some races are too processional, then the drivers shouldn’t be expected to pull over when somebody wants to pass. Fix the cars and make them racier – not the driving.

Excessive weaving can be boring and dangerous, of course. But Barfield is wiser enough to realise when it goes too far. Brian Barnhart would just penalise any driver who defended – i.e. Helio in Detroit against Justin Wilson. Barnhart never could differentiate between safe defensive driving and dangerous defending/weaving.

The description of what happened in Toronto is awful, I didn’t realise drivers like Dario Franchitti needed the racing equivalent of the Highway Code.

Quote :

There are exceptions to aggressiveness, no dirty driving on ovals. At those speeds, you really are asking for trouble. But at a 50 mph street course turn, a dust up won’t really harm anyone. Nobody got injured at Toronto last year and there was plenty of brain-fade driving. And of course, off track altercations can take place at any race track.
