new scoring system on the way http://www.touringcartimes.com/article.php?id=6950

If there are 30 cars it will give the likes of John George a chance of scoring points.

Great idea, Be nice for the teams lower down the order to have at least something to show for it at the end of a tough season.

Nick Tandy tested Motorbase's Focus last week

http://www.touringcartimes.com/article.php?id=6990

He'd be a welcome driver on the grid next year, even on a part time basis (perhaps he could share with Thommo, if Thommo doesnt get a full time ride)

Folk would probably rather attend BTCC anyway, it's not like you get world-standard cars when you attend WTCC. All you get are a glorified load of shopping trolley's like in BTCC, that's fine for a national championship but not a world one.

correct, donington dropped wtcc for btcc because more people would go to btcc

there is no need for the world touring car championship unless they use gt4 regulations

http://gt4cup.com/gallery.php

gt4 is closer to tradisional touring cars regs anyway

Dave Newsham joins ES Racing http://www.btcc.net/html/generalnews_detail.php?id=2800&month=0&year=2008&form=&searchterm=

Bit of a surprise, an unproven team with a seasons' experience of BTCC. Looks likely that they've acquired the ex Motorbase Focuses.

Media day date announced at Silverstone http://www.btcc.net/html/generalnews_detail.php?id=2798&month=0&year=2012&form=&searchterm=

Its good that Triple Eight are getting new machinery, but I think this will rule out Plato for contending for the title and thats a real shame. Plato v Neal is a great show.

A Cruze with an NGTC engine would have been a great combo; a slippery car being a saloon, wide track and strong torque.

I wouldn't rule plato out. The car is being run by triple Eight and although done a lot of work with Vauxhall, I imagine these guys will know how to put a good car together

I think with Plato's expertise behind the wheel, they will score at least a few victories. But I fear that Neal's only rival for the title will be Shedden, who isn't much opposition when Daddy calls the shots.

Should be interesting with Plato in an MG and also it's been so long side MG last took to the grid but can't help think it looks like a Hyundai but hopefully it's a successful car they probably will make it a success though

Well the return of MG is good, but it will be tough for Triple Eight to have the cars ready for Brands, let alone the media day.
Shame they've gone for Neate's money rather than a decent driver to drive the team forward and go for the Teams' Championship, but Neate hasnt impressed in his 2 seasons so far and i don't expect much better for 2012.
It's a shame also that this will probably be at the expense of Chevrolet RML in BTCC, who without Plato will probably find it hard to attract backing to put a turbo in their Cruze(s), or a top line driver to race it. TechSpeed are also looking to be out of the Championship this year due to lack of funds, and i suspect John George will give up as he didn't enjoy last year at all. Paul O'Neill posted on FB about looking for GT drive
On another note ES have bought Triple Eight's Vectra's and Lea Wood has bought Andy Jordan's car.
Not seen anything about Motorbase selling the Focuses from last year, so they may still end up running them again. James Nash has also been rumoured to be alongside Mat Jackson in the team, with Liam Griffin paying the bills to keep his drive.

RML out this year just announced

http://www.facebook.com/chevroletbtcc/posts/10150578713063322

not really surprised once it was announced Plato was off to MG. Would be nice if Techspeed could end up with some turbo engines though.

Im looking forward to seeing how the turbocharged 320is stack up against the competition. The weak point of the BMW was never its chassis, stability or traction just pure grunt. Its not clear whether the NGTC-spec chassis' are an advantage, but the turbo engines definitely are I dont think running S2000 cars will hurt WSR too much. Now the BMW will have that low RPM acceleration and HP to rival the FWD cars, along with a nicely balanced chassis it could be quite a car

BTCC races are too short for FWD cars to fuck up their front tyres, so TOCA better not penalise the BMWs.

Toby Moody announced as new commentator, along with Julian Ryder on Eurosport's MotoGP coverage, they're the best team going, hope some of that magic rubs off with Tim Harvey

I don't know about this, Toby and Julian work together just as good as laurel and hardy, Morecombe and wise etc, Listening to Toby when doing the silverstone classic I just didn't get the real buzz from him compared to when he does Moto GP.

Although saying that BTCC will have exciting racing and am sure he can handle it just as well as Ben could.

Am just glad he is still doing Moto GP as well.

I'm glad he's doing MotoGP as well too, Moody/Ryder/Spalding it too good to not be together. Hopefully working with Tim Harvey will at least approach the chemistry with Julian Ryder and give us an extra treat when the safety car is out. I agree when he did the Classic a few years ago, and it's bound to take a few races to settle in.
