One of the big reasons stockcars world in America is it's history, the moonshire running, racing on daytona beach etc, etc.
In europe we don't have that history, which is why stockcar racing has never been that big in Europe. Indycar still gets more viewers in europe than NASCAR. Other than that I like it.

Wtcc cars do look lost of f1 style circuits. There again almost everything but f1 does.

Was watching FIA GT1/3 from Nogaro today, the circuit is a bit too twisty for these cars. Thankfully it was wet so there were more racing grooves than normal.

The grids are undoubtedly small, but they put on quite entertaining racing. If they were racing at an appropriate circuit, the racing would have been ever better. I can excuse small grids for entertaining racing.

That means he's going to fiddle with blancpain this is bad news. Gt3-1 and gt3-3 have been shit for a while now but at least they were just a distraction.

Whether people like it or not, motorsport is as much a business as it is a sport. And it’s simply unsustainable to have so many similar championships alongside each other. I’m not sure why so many separate championships exist, when they offer no USP. Junior open wheel racing has suffered this for some time, where new championships have been set-up – now it’s unclear which produces the best drivers.

Particularly in Europe, the market for motor racing is shrinking – and a lot of championships need to merge rather than limp along with pathetic grids.

or 2 1 hour races as a formet for gt cars is a terrible idea. Blancpain had something 100 entries for spa.

I believe that GTE cars are the next ones to die, because the simplicity and popularity of GT3 cars is resulting in healthy grids and great racing.
It would be great to see Aston Martin, Audi, BMW, Ferrari, Porsche, Chevrolet, McLaren, Mercedes etc in GT at La Sarthe. After all, GTE cars have the same horsepower as GT3 cars, with the air restrictors that GTE cars have.

it is a worry, but if you added gt3 to le mans you'd need a 150 starting spots. GTe has a couple of problems, firstly there are a massive amount of waivers for each car and it's become about who can shout loudest gets theirs first sort of thing. The second is the old cars have no where else to race. Thats not to say gt3 is better on that front. At the moment GT3 has no rules for the cars and the aco have basically said there will be no gt3 at le mans until blance of preformance has gone and there is a rule book.

If the FIA/ACO could work a way of getting GT3 cars at La Sarthe, it would be immense. They might have no choice, because manufacturers are clearly favouring GT3 regulations. Audi, Mercedes McLaren almost exclusively build GT3 cars, and the BMW M3 GT doesn’t race outside America, and the Z4 GT3 is very popular.

We need a showdown between the world’s great automotive brands – and GT3 provides that.

That is interesting, I wonder if any team is interested in running the Z4 in GTE spec. The E92 M3 will end production any time now, so it makes sense to stop promoting it.

The Z4 GT3 actually has more power than the GTE M3; those GT3 cars are not slow.

GT3 is the way forward though, as practically every maker that makes a sportscar has a GT3 car. The problem with GTE, is that it doesn’t reflect the actual sports car scene. I feel that the ACO need to adopt this trend and make it work, rather than burying its head in the sand with GTE cars.

There should be a gradual transition to GT3 cars for La Sarthe, as this is clearly where the market is heading – practically every sports car maker produces a GT3 car. Whereas actually very few make a GTE car.

It’s not like GTE cars are any more powerful, either, they appear to be very similar – it’s just GT3 is winning right now.

It’s a bit optimistic to say that GTE grids are plentiful, they aren’t, GT2/GTE grids have declined almost everywhere since its peak. Le Mans not only featured a weak GTE field, although it was entertaining, but the number of marque’s represented was limited.

gt3's are more expensive to run, due to the high number of upgrades they tend to go through and the short life pan of the cars. And GTe's not exactly dead yeat Z4m coming next year and the new Viper coming to MidOhio...

Well for whatever reason, GT3 cars are winning right now – simply from a car field point of view. GTE is not dead, but arguably the formula is declining in terms of grids. I was just looking at the WEC field for Silverstone, where if there would be a healthy GT count, this would be the race, but even that’s weak.

I’m sceptical as to what difference the Z4 GTE and Viper would have on a global level, ALMS will certainly benefit, but GTE needs healthier grids particularly in Europe.

I also like GT3 because virtually every relevant brand has one. With GTE, too many makers don’t have such spec cars, so that automatically discounts certain makers and brands, like Audi’s R8, McLaren’s MP4-12C and Mercedes’ SLS.

I see that FIA GT1 will end at Donington, not in India now. I might go along to that.
