It's obviously gonna change between now and when it sees competition for the first time, but even at this stage it looks impressive. Smile

Very interesting, looks as if the DTM regulations for next year will not be totally new, but revised. I’m pleased to see far fewer aero winglets on that M3 test car, touring cars shouldn’t be about amazing downforce – leave that to open wheel cars. That will lend to better racing too, with less grip and drivers not worrying about knocking off winglets to overtake.

I am intrigued as to what BMW will do in terms of branding. The current M3 is based on the E90/E92 3-Series which will be replaced imminently, but the next production M3 won’t be released until 2014. So that either means that BMW stick with the current M3 shape, but promoting a shape that will be rather old, or, using thw upcoming 3-Series shape – promoting a product that has a far more general reach. I suspect the latter will be done, but very technically – it won’t be an ‘M3’ if the new shape is used – at least until 2014.

Also, that is a Coupe pictured – I thought that DTM cars have to be saloons?

With the three German giants contesting DTM, it should become a far better spectacle.

I'm guessing they've all decided to allow coupes to go with the hoped for tie in with the Japanese and hope they bring Nissans and Lexus etc to come and play as well.

Yup, I think allowing coupe's would tie in with DTM's efforts to make their cars similar to Super GT cars, making it easier for Japanese makers to make the transition.

I think Mercedes are using the C-Class coupe as their base.

Not so sure about Audi. The A5 perhaps?

The Norisring race report in Autosport said the A4 is being replaced by the A5 next year.

It's cool that Coupe's are returning, quite liked the Mercedes CLK and Audi TT in the early 2000's. That is an Audi S5 pictured (to be really pedantic! Laughing ), but they are almost certain to use the A5 as their package.

For BMW it makes sense to run the current 3-Series Coupe, as the Coupe will remain in production for around two years more - the Coupe always comes two years later then the Saloon.

If DTM have any sense they'll move from ESPN, not sure where they would go, Motors means more of us can watch but they havent invested in picture quality still, so cant see that. Eurosport have WTCC so can't see then wanting a rival. It doesnt do DTM any good being on a subscription channel in the UK. Maybe do what GT1 does and be on Bloomberg.

Do they stream online? most SRO series do it! FIAGT1,FIAGT3 and the blancpain endurance series. i think it would be worth it to put it online.

I like the way that DTM officials have made the 2012 regulations. They haven’t scrapped the good bits; like the carbonfibre monocoque’s, noisy petrol V8’s or rear wheel drive. But, they’ve standardised parts to reduce costs and reduced the downforce of the cars, which should mean the cars are not glued to the track as they are now. Which has ultimately made DTM very boring.

The right ingredients are already in place, but finer details have been tweaked. I like the fact that DTM going back to Coupe’s too.

The BMW M3 Concept car looks epic…except for that utterly hideous matt black paint finish.

Seeing the three German giants going head-to-head is a brilliant prospect. With the best premium marque’s battling it out, WTCC will look pathetic with Chevrolet and Seat and four cylinder hair dryers.

Not a real surprise here, but Gary Paffett gives a sneak preview of the 2012 Mercedes-Benz DTM car - the C-Class Coupe:

It's interesting to see exactly how the new generation car will have more mechanical grip.

BMW hasn't released their M3 DTM car yet, but Audi and Mercedes-Benz have released their race cars:

The pre-facelifted car looked better, these new headlines are too piggy looking.

As with road cars, it's the finer details that I want to see. There is a clock running on BMW's Motorsport website for a DTM presentation - presumably the real thing will be unveiled then.
