I'd prefer it if a more interesting car maker came to LMP1, Toyota make the most snooziest cars around. Sleep

Porsche, please...

Well there's no doubt that Toyota would run a petrol hybrid, Japanese car makers aren't interested in diesel and only make diesel engines for the European market.

Toyota are a very boring car maker though, they mostly make mumsy-MPV's and boring family cars in terms of production cars. Plus, they failed to win at Le Mans in 1998/1999 and failed to win in F1 despite having the biggest budget. Toyota have never really added much to international circuit racing.

They were almost invisable in F1, nobody was really a fan of them. I want more interesting car makers like Porsche at Le Mans.

Porsche won't run an LMP1 campaign as long as Audi participates, as both brand's are part of the same Group. It would be like VW/ Skoda/Seat/Bentley/Bugatti wanting to compete in LMP1 - not a chance when one of the VW brand's is already entered.

I'd love to see Porsche make a race-contending petrol prototype again, but today's situation won't allow that to happen.

Toyota's le mans especially the Ts-020 (aka the GT-one) that your talking about is very findly remembered, as is the Toyota 88C.

One of my favourite Le Mans cars is

When Toyota went into F1 that was a mistake, without a doubt.

Defending Toyota's road cars is harder. The Supra was good but thats obviously gone now. I don't like the hybrids and other rubbish they make at the moment.

That Minolta Toyota is brilliant on Gran Turismo. Cool

This is why I think Toyota entering Le Mans would be a waste, they don't make sporty or interesting cars. People who buy the sort of cars that Toyota sells are not interested in Motorsport; the average Yaris, Auris or Verso owner are probably more interested in how big the hazzard light button is.

Toyota don't make anything that could relate to a motorsports programme in terms of advertising or marketing. The Lexus LFA is a spin off from Toyota's F1 programme, with its V10-shrike - but that's rather pointless now that Toyota have left F1. The LFA came too late for any F1 marketing fluff.

The lexus Lfa's V10 is a 4.5 and has no relation to the 3 litre f1 v10

Toyota want to win le mans, I think it's that simply. Japan are obsessed with the race.

I wasn’t referring to the capacity of the engine, the noise mimics that of an old V10 F1 unit. Plus, the carbon composite has been inspired by their F1 cars. Toyota engineers spent years using the F1 programme to develop a carbonfibre chassis.

If Toyota wanted to win Le Mans so badly, they wouldn’t have quit after two years and went to F1 for a lot longer. In fact, whilst Toyota was racing at Le Mans they were making prototypes of Formula One cars, ready for their debut in 2002 - couldn’t have wanted to win Le Mans that badly…

Don’t get me wrong, Toyota seem to always be an interesting party in Le Mans. But considering the level of speculation, not much has actually happened – more substance to the rumours please.
