BTCC returns after a 5 week layoff to Oulton Park. TOCA have issued amendments after the last round to try and equalise the turbo and atmo cars, with the atmos getting a weight break and turbos on notice of a lowering of boost pressure.

My first weekend away camping this year, weather forecast looks good. Shame this event clashed with World GT1's as would like to have gone to that, but already committed to BTCC when i realised the dates were the same.

Nice to see Matt Neal living up to his reputation. Hitting Shedden once wasn't enough, so he decided to put him in the gravel for good measure.

Well it was a great weekend, weather was fantastic on Friday and Saturday, but the constant on/off rain meant packing a wet tent away Sad Still meant for plenty of action on track and gave us the Matt Neal own goal in race 2.
Was impressed with Nick Foster, he did well to say he has little BTCC experience, and although he didn't always hold the turbocars off to the end he was battling well. Lea Wood did well upon his return as well, points in race one.
Shame Paul O'Neill had drive through in race 1 (out of position on grid), 7th in R2 meant a good slot for R3, but losing it at Druids on the damp track wasn't so good; he did say he was gonna go for it. John George had a big smash coming out of Old Hall in R3 but got out the car ok.
Tom Onslow Cole had a quiet weekend and then announced he is off to AON for the rest of the season, presumably to develop the Focus as they're not doing great at the moment. http://www.btcc.net/html/generalnews_detail.php?id=2448&month=0&year=2008&form=&searchterm=

Plato had another good moan on tv about the turbos, i still think he has a point, but Dick Bennetts of WSR phrased it better. Realistically you need a turbo to stand much of a chance so unless RML have been working on it in the last few months then there'll be more Plato moaning. WSR can't really do a lot as BMW don't have turbo to offer them. Be interesting to see if Geoff Steel Racing do manage to get a turbo in their BMW's before the end of the season.

I still wonder whether BMW's 1.6 litre turbo unit that runs in the customer WTCC cars can be used in BTCC. Despite the smaller capacity compared to the new BTCC units, they produce similar levels of power and torque. That would make the BMW's a whole lot more competitive if they had that immense power and acceleration, whilst maintaining good levels of traction towards the end of races.

Plato's rant was rather hasty and unintellectual, put he raised a point that really cannot be ignored. The performance difference between NA and turbo cars is stifling the racing we are seeing, its a good job that reverse grid's occur because NA cars wouldn't be able to run up front any other way. Even better it was wet at Oulton Park too, leveling out the field.

Rather than having an entire grid that can be in contention, we have a two-tier system - and it's not very pretty.
