After the glorious carnage of St Petersberg, IndyCar returns this weekend for the Honda Indy Grand Prix of Alabama at the challenging Barber Motorsports Park.

A lot of drivers had miserable weekends in St Petersberg, the likes of Dixon and Hunter-Reay will be looking to score big points to make up for it. Whilst Dario will be trying to make it two wins in a row, with Will Power always threatening on a road course. Watch live coverage on Sky Sports at 8 pm on Sunday.

i think st pete was ok as a race, it could have done with a little more passing or something but not much. But the first corner shunt was boring, marco on his head again, yawn and the double file restarts are stupid.

I doubt very much barber will make a good race but if thats the case thats proof of competition. Sometimes sport isn't exciting.

The big pile up was the best bit, that was sure to attract TV viewers. And sure enough, the race had the highest ratings for any IndyCar race since 2007.

James Hinchcliffe has secured a racing seat with Newman/Haas Racing: http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/90457

That's good news, Hinchcliffe has been trying to get a seat for years.

Surprise surprise, Will Power on pole: http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/90582

The most impressive position is Hinchcliffe, bloody hell, first time qualifying an IndyCar and he is 8th. What a legend Danica is, 22nd despite all her experience and driving for the same team since 2006.

Wonder how many people Helio we Harpoon in turn one this week. Shouldn't be too many he starts fourth with two team mates ahead. I was praying for de Silvestro not to try to pass Kannan last time out, she deserved to get a good result a lot of times last season and got denied by other drivers being stupid.

Hinchcliff had a good first qualifying starting eighth, one behind Dario. Will Power has pole but the times have been close in practice so I don't think he will disappear into the distance. Hope its as exciting as the first race but without so many cautions.

I'm glad she starts just in front of Kannan, that could get interesting. I dont have any real dislike for Danica yet but I do for Kannan so I hope they put on a good show of some sort resulting in Tonys humiliation. Surprised

Yeah the officials will be watching Helio for any dodgy starts after the St Petersberg incident with Marco.

In my opinion, Kanaan is a great driver. Once Dario left the Andretti team, Kanaan was the only one who could win on some sort of consistent basis. Marco, Danica and Mutoh relied on Tony to set their cars up, which tells you how good Tony is. And in a team he’s never driven for before, he got a podium in St Petersberg.

Perhaps on a more normal circuit he is struggling, but I’d give the guy a break because he only got announced to race a week before St Petersberg – it’s going to take him time to get up to speed in a new team.

barber motorsport park, a beautiful race track, but awful for car racing

if marco ends up unside down again it will be the best part of this race (probably)

There was certainly more racing then last year, the double-file restarts were brilliantly done this time out. All drivers lined-up row-by-row, which meant drivers were in a great position to pass into the overtaking zone of turn 5. The restarts are just so much more exciting now, they add a new element to the races that increase the show. The cautions were thrilling, more cautions then NASCAR - NASCAR should take note!

Ryan Hunter-Heay was an idiot there; he went into the corner too fast, so decided to go on the kerb instead and had no respect for Briscoe, who left him plenty of room. Hunter-Reay is a bit of a twat, he moaned like an old granny over the restarts in St Petersberg, and then doesn’t understand what he did wrong when he took Briscoe out.

Kanaan was once again brilliant, to come from the back to finish 7th is a great achievement. He managed to make up 10 places in the first couple of turns alone. Danica was quite competitive today, although the decision by her team to only take fuel on the final pitstop was a costly mistake. She was a sitting duck on old tyres.

Cannot wait for Long Beach, looking forward to sitting back and watching the carnage erupt.

It was a lot more exciting than last year. Its a shame marco didn't get upside down but it wouldn't have improved the race.

However the best part was after the third pitstop when danica dropped from third (that's a false third) to last getting overtaken every few corners it was very fun.

Pagenaud was brilliant as was kanann and several others

i don't think hunter reay was that at blame he try and pull out of it

as for graham rahal it might be a ganassi car but it's not ganassi run and graham rahal is rather overdue a decent car.

I think Dario still has a great opportunity to win the championship. Will Power is clearly brilliant on the road and street courses, he’s a born road course racer - but he lacks the experience of Dario on the ovals. Also, there are more ovals then road courses – so Power won’t have everything his own way. With the way that the IndyCar schedule falls, Power is going to collect a lot of points early on with the road courses. But, from Indianapolis onwards the schedule features ovals until July, then from late summer into the autumn IndyCar is full of ovals. That could be Power’s Achilles heel.

Plus, Dario is a brilliant road course racer as well. Power was on pole in St Petersberg, but it was Dario who was victorious. On the natural road courses like Barber, things are more predictable and normal. But the street courses are crazy, and Dario keeps a cool head in those situations.

Agreed, not sure what Danica’s team were thinking about not changing tyres. She only gained one position by only taking fuel, so if she took tyres she could have finished 4th, instead of sinking like a rock.

they said on commentary that the tyres she had left were as bad as those currently on the car. She was 7th coming in and she gained 4 places. But I think she would have lost half of those places anyway tyres or not.
