So the 2011 GP2 Asia series is now going to Imola, having had its only other race in Abu Dhabi in February.

What is the point of GP2 Asia at all? Last time I looked Imola was in Italy, not in Asia... in fact, nowhere near ##ing Asia!!

It's a bit of a moot point whether Abu Dhabi and/or Bahrain are really in "Asia" - so why not just call it "GP2-2, the Winter Series" or something? Or simply merge it with the main GP2 Series?

Don't understand its relevance... especially not it appears to be getting closer and closer to Europe.

I agree, just call it the Winter Series and have done. As has been said elsewhere, why arent they going to Malaysia and China in the F1 support slot.

I fear a some mooing coming on.

Moo Kerching Moo Kerching Mooooo Kerching

I'm glad gp2 asia is having another race even if it is at imola. But GP2 winter series would make a lot more sense for the teams and drivers.

I agree with all what has been said, it is a shame that GP2 Asia has an odd name and is only restricted to the Middle East. Because, the racing is sensational – even around Abu Dhabi where overtaking is difficult, there was plenty of racing. Whenever GP2 Asia has gone to Bahrain, again, brilliant racing even on a boring track.

Really, to bring some credibility back to the series name, they ought to support the Malaysian and Chinese rounds of the F1 championship. At least those countries are solidly based in Asia, and because those F1 races take place near the start of the season, GP2 Asia could do all the Middle East rounds before F1 starts, then, have Malaysia and China as the final rounds.

I can see why GP2 doesn’t do stand-alone events that are not on F1 circuits, remember Indonesia at Sentul anyone? Oh dear…
