| On the FIA's website, the start date of every session and race (excluding the Indian GP): http://www.fia.com/en-GB/mediacentre/pressreleases/f1releases/2011/Pages/f1-2011-start.aspx
One minor change, is that the Canadian GP will now start at 6 pm UK time, not 5 pm like last year. I think 6 pm should be the compulsory start time for every race. I don't know why races are even held in the afternoon. Aren't the general public on the beach in the summer or socialising? Evening is when the masses watch TV. Most other sports start and end in the evening, because that is prime time TV.
And because the sun goes down later in the summer months, having a 6 pm start would be fine for European races without the need for artificial lighting.
The Canadian GP is an amazing affair due to being in the evening. There are animals running onto the track, silly crashes, wrecks in pitlane and safety car periods. Just an immense show.

| Evening races might be relatively accessible to European audiences, indeed, and the viewers in the US would get it morning or lunchtime, which would probably suit them... but what about the markets that Bernie is determined to buy into, especially the Far East?
Ever considered what time a British GP starting at 5pm would be on in China, Malaysia etc.?!!?
Let's just say that the chances of Bernie risking alienating the entire Asian Continent is virtually nil... 1pm is 8pm in China... move the race until 5pm and we're talking Midnight start... no chance, I'm afraid!

That’s very rich, considering you mainly speak in text language, struggle to string sentences together and critique anything.
Having evening races may actually encourage viewers in Asia to watch the sport. Most Asian countries don’t have a culture of weekends, in China for example, a lot of people work a seven day week. So they won’t see the Chinese GP or won’t attend.
The bulk of races are still in Europe, where F1’s biggest viewing base is – so evening starts for Euro races would suit the majority of F1’s viewers when F1 is in Europe. The Ferrari president, Luca di Montezemolo, also called for later start times:
| Quote: | F1 should think about changing the race start time for grands prix, according to Ferrari president Luca di Montezemolo. "I don't think it's good that in July or August the races begin at 2 o'clock when most people are laying on the beach," the Italian told Germany's Sport Bild. "Football games don't get started until 5 o'clock or later," added Luca di Montezemolo. |
http://www.auto123.com/en/racing-news/other/f1-luca-di-montezemolo-wants-start-time-change-for-f1-races?artid=126497
I don't think that the entire calendar will consist of evening races, but as a compromise, most of them should to suit viewers.

Well, they might well work 7 days but do they really want to sit up until 3am every Sunday night (with work on Monday morning) to watch the European races?
Methinks not... 8/9pm-11pm or similar is one thing, 1am-3am is quite another.

| It's 7pm on a July evening, and the British GP has just ended.
Let's see what's happening in Asia...
Tokyo it's 3am... the Japanese are starting to think about their 6.30am start, only 3 hours away. Beijing and it's 2am, same in Malaysia. Australia it's 4am... the bars are closed and the Fosters ain't been flowing for hours.
Why does ANYBODY think this is even remotely viable?
Madness...

| Its a compromise, in return, Asians can see their own Grand Prix's at the time that suits them. And Europe is still F1's biggest audience, so it suits them best. But it works well for Asian viewers too, as they can actually go and see their respective home race's when they are not at work. No good having a race 2 pm local time, a lot of them they are at work.

| formula 1 has raced in the day time for years and it's been fine, boring but fine and people watched. There is no point in moving to the evening, it add's nothing worth having or it would have been done in the 70's. |

Like to see these examples, since on all forums I ask for good English. |

| Good English? Hmm, I don't think 'ATM, LOL, U, Cos' and other terms you frequently use can be considered as 'good English'. Just one example of your marvellous spelling here: | Quote: | | Hmm, hi, altho i normly look for newbies in the thread at the top said welcome thread |
I heard someone accusing somebody of being 'thick'....

And you pick a quote that I wrote off my phone at I seem to think at about 3am, after a night out at uni.
For being pissed I'd say that rather good. |

That is fine with me, but I take issue over people calling me 'thick' when they hardly cover themselves in glory.

You make me laugh Chris.
Time zones make it impossible for every race to be held at night or evening if you want peak viewing figures and audiences. Artificial lighting does little to the racing, we all thought it would make it much better with drivers unable to make out key markers for braking and the like but in fact it makes it brighter, take motogp out in the middle east first race of last couple seasons. Boring parades, and motogp has never been known for that.
(To make Sav extra irritated)
And from doing env sci at uni, think of the light pollution and electricity usage. |

Your idea is thick, just thick was a one word answer instead of a long arguement. |

| You are also thick for frequently using text language and not bothering to spell properly.
I actually posted something about local markets preferring evening races when a race comes to their respective countries', not that you read that. |

| And you included wanting races in summer to be moved to the evening.
To add to the argument, drivers now say evening is bad cos of the dipping sun, its harder to drive in the sunset (just road driving tells you this) and brake markings are difficult to see.
(And just to say, I'd like to see you when hammered try to type exactly like you were sober.) |

| Btw, i meant races should start @ 1pm LOCAL TIME, before anyone jumps on my back.
And the first race of MotoGP is poor because Stoner is so good at that track. |

But if you claim to want good standards of English on forums, why post when you don't really know what you're doing? Still, I don't care, the post still exists which is the main point.
