Quote :
Aston Martin will contest the 2011 Le Mans 24 Hours with a new open-cockpit LMP1 prototype, the company has confirmed at the AUTOSPORT 1000km on Saturday.

The car will be a monocoque chassis and run with a purpose-built racing engine. Aston Martin Racing returned to the top class of sportscar racing with a modified Lola LMP1 coupe in 2008, but its '11 contender will be a completely new design.

That looks amazing, I love the air intake near the front wheel. Glad that Aston-Martin are sticking with a full petrol engine, hope it wins over any possible tractors.

That's a good compromise to me, any racing car with six cylinder's or more is ace. Anything under is gay.

an inline four can be good, as can a v4 (well in bikes) and a big v2 twin can sound awesome.

Aston's all new LMP1 car has been unveiled, here: http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/89690

It looks more like an F1-clone with that front nose.

But, the engine configuration is very interesting:
Quote :
two-litre straight-six turbo engine

Its very odd but intriguing. Usually six cylinder engines have big capacities, and straight six's are really only used in production BMW's apart from some random cars along time ago. Being a straight six, it will be very smooth. I can imagine it will sound pretty fruity with a petrol in-line six.

Just shows, no need for diesel or hybrid crap for good fuel economy - a small and efficient petrol motor is perfectly fine.

i like it. looks great.

interesting that Aston went open-top when the rules favour coupes which is the reason Audi when with a coupe....still don't need the fin.

going to be interesting year for sports car.....its going to be mint!

The racing in ALMS will be great as ever, with shorter races. The European Le Mans events will be dire in terms of entertainment, as usual.

I really like the sound of this engine in the Aston though.

there is a problem there. while lms is live on motors and radio le mans, ilmc i think is with eurosport (so no coverage there, apart from RLM) and there's no alms live tv anywhere, excpet espn3 which no one can get, no radio either, at this point.

The pioneering digital programs will feature fan favorites Hindhaugh and Shaw, well-known for their coverage of the Series on ALMS Radio. from eve on there new radio le mans site.

Quote :
Yes, sorry to pour cold water on this but may I just clarify something.
Motors TV will not be showing the rest of the Le Mans Series or any of the US races.
At present there are no plans for Eurosport to show Sebring or Petit live and it's possible they won't show any of the other ILMC races live either.
There are no plans to announce radio talent because there will NOT be radio for ALMS this year. There will be audio feed from the video webcast being made available.

this is bad news.
