PostSubject: Hispania confirm Toyota talks   Sat Jul 24, 2010 5:31 am

Hispania may form a partnership with Toyota: http://www.pitpass.com/fes_php/pitpass_news_item.php?fes_art_id=41502

I wonder how this would work; would Toyota design a car to 2011 specification and give Hispania support to run the car? Or would a 2009 or 2010 Toyota (never raced) be modified to meet the 2011 regulations? Of course, the 2009 and 2010 Toyota both have double diffusers - which are outlawed for next season. So any modification would be substantial with a different diffuser.

I think it would suit HRT well, its clear that they lack the financial and technical resources to build a competitive car - Toyota have an empty factory in Germany so it makes sense. It also suggests that Toyota still seem to be interested in F1 if they would be prepared to go ahead with this. According to reports in Germany, Toyota are locally advertising for vacancies so that they can provide help for a smaller team.

In essence, it could be Toyota's return to F1 in a low-key way.

Hispania have very little moeny. So there probably going to rent a room at cologne to build the 2011 chassis. Rumours of engine supply as well.

But most of Cologne will probably be building a rally car, lmp car or ...

I do wonder what, or if Toyota are planning any other motorsport activities at all. There have been rumours of little significance that they are building an LMP1 car, but there has been nothing concrete from Toyota or a credible report on it. I would like them to enter Le Mans with a P1 car, but they don't appear even close to committing to building a P1 car.

I think you are right about Hispania renting space in the factory, Stefan GP were supposed to do that - but thats another story all together.

the p1 car is a maybe, like a rally or even touring car, but i have to elieve there will be something motorsport coming out of cologne with a toyota name on. They have lots of staff they can't get rid of so they might as well do something.

A touring car would be good, they haven't made a European-style touring car for a while now.

PostSubject: Lotus to team up with Toyota?   Sun Sep 19, 2010 4:56 am

Quote :
Lotus has informed the media that it will be making "a number of very exciting announcements" in at the Singapore Formula One Grand Prix next weekend.

It is widely expected that the new team's current drivers will be retained for another season, and that Lotus Racing will take on the historic Team Lotus moniker for 2011 and beyond.

And according to the rumour mill, with the team's 2011 contract with Cosworth now dissolved, Lotus will be confirming an engine and gearbox deal with Renault.

But the Italian language Autosprint reports that Malaysian owned Lotus could actually be set to announce a technical cooperation with Toyota Motorsport, the Cologne based outfit that raced in Formula One between 2002 and last year.

Toyota is currently supplying Pirelli with a 2009 spec test car, and has been linked with a technical collaboration for 2011 with HRT, the struggling Spanish team.

But Autosprint reports that Lotus and Toyota are in fact set to collaborate, with Mike Gascoyne proving the crucial link between the two outfits.

Several former members of Toyota's Formula 1 team are now working with Lotus, such as sporting director Dieter Gass.

"We have to do something different and it will be done soon," team boss and owner Tony Fernandes told the BBC at Monza last weekend.

"Lots of negotiations have gone on over the last couple of weeks and we're very happy with the outcome," he added.

Hmm, this is a suspicious rumour. Its all been confirmed that Lotus will be using Renault engines next year and Renault KERS, so what else could Toyota be helping with? Perhaps help with building Lotus's 2011 chassis or suspension systems?

Toyota do seem to be using their Motorsport facility in Cologne to help interest F1 parties, like providing Pirelli a test car for tyre testing. Lotus could be a decent and competitive team in 2011.
