I think it will be a race between the Porsche and the Ferrari. I've been reading about Ferrari's hybrid system, and they have been developed it quite extensively and testing the 599 hybrid at Firoano (sp) (there F1 test track).

And Porsche of course, have actually run their GT3 Hybrid in an actual endurance race. The rest are un-tried and un-developed. The Audi, BMW and other cars haven't been actually driven in any type of race.

I think the ACO should be careful not too get ahead of themselves though. The more immediate future for the motor industry is small capacity turbocharged petrol engines.

The future is hydrogen fuel cell it's just a question of time.
There will of course be some petrol stuff about. But most ordinary cars will be hfc.

This is a demo only.

Oh I agree, in terms of non-fossil fuels - it is the only 'green' fuel that emits no emissions. But, hydrogen needs years to be developed and infrastructure needs to be built. Oil isn't going to run out in our life time, and the sheer cost of alternative fuelled cars will rule them out from going mainstream for years. That new Nissan Leaf, for example, costs 24000 - 24000 for an ordinary family hatchback!!!

As petrol engines get more and more efficient, it will be norm for many years to come imo. Its nice to look into the further future, but the ACO should focus on technologies that are being used now and the near future - petrol and hybrids. Diesels will become unpopular soon, stricter EU legislation will make building diesel engines only worthwhile for more expensive (and more profitable) cars. According to Autocar's estimations, a diesel car will on average, cost 5000 more in 2020 with the new EU laws - that will wipe out profitability for almost all mainstream cars.

The trend is small capacity petrol engines, like VAG's 1.4 turbo unit and three cylinder petrol units.
