My F1 game proposal.

In my opion there are only going to be three race winners for most of the season, Alonso, Hamilton and Schumacher. Based on this i think the battle for fourth, fifth and sixth on backwards will be far more interesting. Based on this i propose The Formula RF Challenge.

Each driver will be placed in a seeding group from which players would pick one driver from each (see the ALMS game). To go along with my theory the is a weighted points system, effectiveley awarding more points to the player who picks forth place correct than picks the winner.

The points system

1 50
2 49
3 48
4 45
5 40
6 35
7 30
8 25
9 20
10 16
11 12
12 7
13 5
14 3
15 2
16 1

The driver seeding

Cat 1
Hamilton
Schumacher
Alonso

Cat 2
Button
Rosberg
Massa
Vettel
Hulkenberg
Webber

Cat 3
Barrichello
Kubica
Petrov
Sutil
Luizzi
Buemi
Algeursuri
Glock
Di Grassi
Trulli
Kovalainen
Kobayashi
De La Rosa

The driver seeding will be altered based on preformance over each race weekend.
Note HRT F1 need adding to the list of drivers)

Sounds good!

But I think that overtaking should be rewarded, as I suspect that the cars are going to (more than in recent years) end up forming a hierarchy... therefore I would suggest 2 bonus points for each position gained in the race.

So, for instance, if a driver qualifies in 24th position but ends the race in 12th that'd be +24 points.

Also, isn't the seeding rather over-simplistic?? Why is Hulkenberg singled out as the driver from outside "the big four teams" to be in group 2? And do we really think Rubens is going to be fighting for position with the Virgin and Lotus drivers???

genuiene overtakes maybe, but moving up a position, no.

How does one move up a position? With no fuel stops it's going to have to either be a really good pitstop, conservation of tyres or overtaking. Okay - could be influenced by retirements too, perhaps we could tweak my idea so that you don't get points for finishing "in front" of folks who retire - hows about that?

Could do that by counting from the back. If you qualify 3rd from last and finish 10th from last, excluding retirements, you gain 7x2 bonus points. Though, ultimately, if you finish and others don't because they break their car then you have driven better than them.

See my edits to idea above, with regard to seedings too. Didn't expect you to reply so quickly, so the message edit overlapped with your reply.

the reason hulkenberg is higher is i think he is the one person with a chance of breaking upwards from his car (hope that makes sense)

the seeding is overly simplistic, four or even five groupings could work. But how to organise them until after the first race i don't know.

reomving the retirements would help and might be enough to make the idea work.

Would a 4 group work, something like

Cat 1
Hamilton
Schumacher
Alonso

Cat 2
Button
Massa
Vettel

Cat 3
Rosberg
Webber
Barrichello
Hulkenberg
Kubica
Luizzi

Cat 4
Petrov
Buemi
Algeursuri
Glock
Di Grassi
Trulli
Kovalainen
Kobayashi
De La Rosa

I think you're possibly being a little unfair to the Red Bulls, ranking Mercedes above them. The trend last season was that Brawn's competitiveness went down through the season whereas Red Bull's improved. Vettel was not far off winning the title at all, could easily have done it, so I would think he should be in Group 1. Schumacher is likely to transcend his car, as he has always done, but whether Rosberg will figure at all is far from clear so I think you're right with him... but whether Webber and the Renaults should be grouped together... hmm....

this is it, 1) right now any of them could be good or bad. I do think vettel is better than where i have put him but i'm convinced he;'s going to finish better than forth, however if he does he'll move up to group 1.

All the groups will change from race to race based on form, preformance and resaults.

static groups won't work, because i can't for certain predict who will be fast and who will be slow. They won't change that much at any given race, probably a maximum of 2 changes per group per race. ALthough it could be more after the first couple of races.

i was thinking today about a game & this is what i came up with Smile

pick one driver from each group, these three drivers will be your team for the weekends race.

group 1

McLaren
Jenson Button / Lewis Hamilton

Mercedes
Michael Schumacher / Nico Rosberg

Ferrari
Felipe Massa / Fernando Alonso

Red Bull
Sebastian Vettel / Mark Webber

***************************************
group 2

BMW Sauber
Pedro de la Rosa / Kamui Kobayashi

Williams
Rubens Barrichello / Nico Hulkenberg

Renault
Robert Kubica / Vitaly Petrov

Force India
Adrian Sutil / Vitantonio Liuzzi

****************************************
group 3

Toro Rosso
Sebastien Buemi / Jaime Alguersuari

Lotus F1
Jarno Trulli / Heikki Kovalainen

Hispania Racing Team
Karun Chandhok / Bruno Senna

Virgin Racing
Timo Glock / Lucas di Grassi

then pick who you think will be, (any driver doesn't have to be from your three driver team)

Pole Position
Fastest Lap
Winner

so for the first race you could have
Quote :
McLaren - Jenson Button
BMW Sauber - Pedro de la Rosa
Toro Rosso - Sebastien Buemi

Pole Position - Lewis Hamilton
Fastest Lap - Kamui Kobayashi
Winner - Jaime Alguersuari

the scoring system is very simply.
Team Scoring;
which ever driver (in each group) finishes higher up the results table gets five points

five points for each correct Pole, Fastest & Winner

so if you take the example above,

the winner of the race is Massa then in 8th is Pedro de la Rosa & 10th is Heikki Kovalainen, you will score five points

Pole was Lewis Hamilton
Fastest was Jenson Button
Winner was Massa

you will score another five points, giving you a total of fifteen points for the race weekend (Pedro de la Rosa {winner of group 2}, Lewis Hamilton {Pole}, Massa {Race Winner})

as i said it makes no difference where the driver you choose finishes in the actual results as long as the driver you pick for your team finishes higher up than any-other driver in the same group, you will score points Smile

Right, come on folks.. let's stop chatting and let's adopt a game. Teams are already in Bahrain and first practice is only 48 hours away.

Al's seems fine - go with it?

Only slight concern I have is Group 3.

As one of the "established teams" isn't Torro Rosso ALWAYS going to win?

i think the best thing to do is to set up your game & i will set up mine for the first race so members can see what they are like, i think that is the best option for everyone Smile

well maybe, i did think of switching Torro Rosso with Force India but Force India are just as good & i wanted to have four teams in each section, depending on how good Torro Rosso or Force India are after the first race i may switch them to make it fairer, however the fairest option would be to have Torros Rosso & Force India in the same group, but that isn't really going to solve the issue.

I think for the first part of the season the chances of a Virgin, HRT or Lotus car actually outpacing a Torro Rosso is virtually nowt - therefore there is no point in having the third group as it is, as nobody is going to select any of the six drivers from the three new teams.

Those three need to be in a group on their own in order to make this work.

So, perhaps, 4 groups of 3...

Gp 1:
Ferrari
McLaren
Mercedes

Gp 2:
Red Bull
Renault
Sauber

Gp 3:
Torro Rosso
Force India
Williams

Gp 4:
Virgin
Lotus
HRT

I think these groups work okay -- the only potential "anomaly" would be if Red Bull started beating the hell out of all and sundry, but Sauber are looking VERY good in testing so that group is by no means a given.

hmmm maybe that would be better, as i said i will leave it now for this race & see what the outcome is regarding the other teams, depending on how many members enter this first race may not become part of the total of the game score.
