PostSubject: Porsche confirms 2010 plans…and more!   Sun Dec 13, 2009 10:25 am

Quote :
Porsche held its ‘Night of Champions’ last night at the Porsche Museum in Stuttgart-Zuffenhausen. Dirk Werner was awarded the Porsche Cup for the most successful driver of privately-entered race cars and Porsche confirmed its plans for 2010 and possibly beyond.

Wolfgang Dürheimer, Member of the Executive Board for Research and Development, confirmed that Porsche still regards GT racing as highly important: “We at Porsche are keen that GT sport enjoys steady, long-term development. Indispensable pre-requisites for this are stable regulations, predictability, cost control – and common regulations between the F.I.A. and A.C.O. organisations.”

Porsche AG’s CEO Michael Macht, who took over from Wendelin Wiedeking back in July, also made it clear that Porsche will remain committed to motorsport and even mentioned a possible return to Le Mans in the near future. “Motorsport is a central element of our company’s DNA. And it will hold an important role in the future. I’m not the only one at Porsche to be tempted to race for overall victory again at the Le Mans 24 hour race.”

Despite not confirming a prototype project or a date the fact that Macht used these exact words makes it quite clear that a project is in the making. In recent years comments like this would not have been made. With new regulations in place for 2011 it could well mean that Porsche will take over from Audi at Le Mans then…http://www.planetlemans.com/2009/12/12/porsche-confirms-2010-plansand-more/

Porsche taking over from Audi........ interesting.

Dirk Werner will be racing for BMW next year which i think is a good. Good driver!

well Porsche taking over from Audi at LeMans will be more to do with marketing as VW near-enough owns Porsche & having Porsche doing well at LeMans is more likely to be beneficial to the Porsche brand than Audi as it seems to have run it's course now, even when Bentley came back into LeMans everyone know it was basically a Audi underneath the British racing green.

i have no idea whats going on in this weird porsche vs vag thing. last year porsche bought a karge percentage of vag and now vag are buying porsche again. confused

If porsche come back with a prototype i hope it's like they used to. The customer cars almost filled a group c grid on there own.

well Porsche borrowed the money it used to try & buy VW but it didn't buy enough stock to take over before it was found out, so VW then started buying Porsche stock until it had enough to take over, it hasn't took Porsche over but owns enough of it to be able to influence it's strategy, so they don't want Porsche stepping on Audis toes for example, so Audi may now move into F1 building engines or a team even & they won't allow Porsche to try & take on Lambo in the super car area either.

thank you, the makes sense of whats happening. Porsche doing sportscars is right and if on of the many badges within vag became an f1 engine supplier that could be good too.

Well it makes sense, Porsche mainly make sportscars, it is what they are known for. Audi only made its first proper sportscar a couple of years ago. And, Porsche will probably use petrol engines, not dreary diesels that sound terrible.

I'd much rather support Porsche too, one of the world's great car makers. Then Audi, which make cars from VW and Skoda in posh frock's. Then tell us, that diesel is something new and amazing, when in fact, diesel cars have existed for years. And it was actually BMW who first won an international diesel endurance race with a 320D touring car, at the Nurburgring 24 hours in 2000.

mopstly valid except the part about audi building vw's and skoda in posh froks. Skoda makes vw's models for the most part but some are based on audi's too.
