PostSubject: Daytona 24 Hours   Sun Dec 13, 2009 4:56 am

One of the first major motor races for 2010, is the 48th running of the Rolex Daytona 24 Hours - on January 30th - 31st 2010. This race is part of the Grand-Am series, a major sportscar series in America consisting of prototypes and GT cars.

The cars will take to the famous banked sections of Daytona speedway, and run a tight, twisty in-field road course section. With such a long history, this race has become one of the most important races in motorsport. The likes of Mario Andretti, Dan Gurney and Paul Newman have competed in this race.

Today, the likes of Montoya, Dario Franchitti and Jimmie Johnson compete in this great race. With the prototypes and GT cars running together, the race should be a thrilling spectacle.

Jimmie Johnson, the defending 4-time NASCAR champion has been confirmed, with the Gainsco-Chevrolet team: http://www.grand-am.com/news/index.cfm?cid=20188

With a huge variety in car manufacturers, but thrilling racing, the Daytona 24 hours should be a thrilling spectacle. For TV coverage, watch Eurosport or various internet links that will be posted here, nearer the time.

Enjoy. Smile

Penske are racing in the Rolex 24, again with Porsche power. Dumas and Briscoe will almost certainly drive, I wonder if Will Power or Helio will get to drive...

Coverage will be on Eurosport, but I hope they show more of the race. 6 hours out of 24 is not really enough. Anyway, I'll be posting an internet link to Speed TV's coverage, and they are showing 16 hours worth of coverage. Smile

grand am's problem is it's a national series and they don't care about any other market than north america.

But is that a problem? The USA is after all, a large market, and Grand-Am has okay spectator figures, at tracks like Barber Motorsports Park.

No need to expand, when America has many great tracks and has reasonable viewing and spectator figures. Stick to what you know etc.

I think it might be Timo, Dumas and Briscoe but i think they may bring in a 4th.

I like Grand-am they do a good job. I just wish we had live races on tv. as we talked about before we need a motor sports like speed who is fund by fox.

Grand-Am is brilliant, you can watch the races on SPEED when they show it live, via a link on justin tv. Really great racing, and funky looking prototypes.

Yup, I'd love something like Speed TV in Europe. We have Motors TV, but that shows too much crap these days. Thats not just another Motors TV bashing, but the channel's content is mostly dreadful. I watch highlights of Speed TV from speedtv.com, much more captivating then the cheapo-crap on Motors TV.

I think the word you were looking for was ugly oh and slow and fixed, brumos should have had the daytona win taken away becasue they were under weight and they didn't. Then the rules were changed to hamper penske and make sure they didn't win anything.

Actually with all that going on no wonder you like it, how about a similar set of rules for f1, customer chassis and engines balanced unfairly with great racing thrown in?

My personal preferences aside, I'm not entirely sure why you don't like Grand-Am. Its a NASCAR-sanctioned series, so its very going to feature the most sophisicated and technological cars. But, the prototypes are different looking to anything else, however you want to look at that, if every prototype looked the same sort of style, life would be pretty boring.

NASCAR don't care about laptimes compared to other sportscars, both classes, prototype and GT, create fantastic racing and the series has a reasonable following in the US. When I was watching this years Daytona 24 Hours, I wasn't sitting there thinking about how fast these cars are, I was more interested in the constant battles for positions.

Anyway, an early entry list has been released: http://auto-racing.speedtv.com/article/grand-am-strong-rolex-24-entry-list-taking-shape/

Interesting to note that the 02 Ganassi has switched to BMW-power, as opposed to Lexus power. In general that is a great list, with some unusual sportscars such as the Chevrolet Camero and BMW M6. Cool

I don't dislike grand am, i just don't like the way it's run, the rules. The obvious corruption and that almost no one running it (nascar) cares weather it exists or not.

Kerching moo know what i mean.

And the Daytona entry list is awesome and they might get 20k people turn up.

If you want to watch Speed's coverage, follow this link: http://www.myp2p.eu/competition.php?competitionid=&part=sports&discipline=motorsports

Nearer the time, you should see 'Daytona 24 Hours' in the motorsports section. Then just follow the streamimg link, and you'll be watching Speed. If Eurosport do show it, I'm not confident that they will show more then 6 hours. Speed are showing 16 hours worth of coverage.

Ford have unveiled the new Mustang that will be used in the GT class: http://www.worldcarfans.com/109122823718/2011-ford-mustang-boss-302r-for-the-ractrack

This is what I quite like about Grand-Am, you see different sports cars, not just the usual array of Porsche's Ferrari's or Corvette's. Seeing Mustang's, Camaero's, RX-8's and BMW M6's race is refreshing.

Seeing the BMW M6 racin will be quite something, in Europe Alpina raced a V8 engined 6-Series in FIA GT, but to have the full fat V10 M6 in Grand-Am at Daytona will be special. Cool

No need to search for endlessly for internet streams, Justin TV will have a stream from Speed TV who are showing 17 hours worth of coverage.

Good to read that Eurosport are showing the first two hours, one of my favourite races of the year.
