Despite Eurosport's best attempts at cock ups, it was a great race, plenty of action again. Turvey seemed to struggle more in this race, but Valsecchi got his car more sorted.

Race 1:

That was a brilliant race, we had some brilliant driving and some not so brilliant driving, but we had consistently exciting racing. The Abu Dhabi track does have a number of passing opportunities, and with the old-spec cars being used, it was always going to be exciting.

A very well done to Oliver Turvey, he had that race under control for almost all the way through, apart from when he had a little contact with his teamate. He was constantly being hounded by Valsecchi, but he made very few errors, and Valsecchi looked a lot quicker at certain stages. But as they say, catching up is one thing, passing is quite another. Not really sure what happened to Charles Pic, but he seemed to fall of a cliff in terms of pace from the word go. He got mugged by Turvey at the start, then got mugged down the back straight by Valsecchi. A qualifying set up, and poor race set up perhaps? Full marks to Turvey and Bianci, going around the outside of their rivals on the penultimate corner, which really is an overtaking spot that we didnít know that existed. Very impressed with Rossi, to come from the back to finish 6th is very impressive. Was it Fillip who dived up the inside of turn 11? Whoever it was, that was an extraordinary move. Herck was a numpty wasnít he? He surely knew he wouldnít have passed Ericsson without contact? He could see Ericsson was there, oh well, GP2 always has its silly drivers.

Loved the safety car period, it closed everything right up.

Race 2:

WTF happened to Eurosportís coverage? They missed the first 11 minutes of the broadcast with a pointless, shit Ďcrashesí programme. That was never even scheduled in, why delay coverage of a scheduled live programme for an unscheduled programme? Idiots. And most of Eurosportís adís are not even advertising products, they are just advertising Eurosportís own sports, so they are unnecessary. The amount of self-promotion they do is ridiculous.

Overtaking galore though, living up to GP2ís reputation for producing overtaking fests. Thanks to Eurosportís coverage though, we had no idea why the safety car had been deployed and what happened. Bianci was immense under braking, he was under pressure from Pic but managed to fend him off, and pass a car ahead at the same time into turn 11 Ė superb driving. Bianciís abilities under braking reminded me of Hamilton in GP2. Is Valsecchiís composure and speed here to stay, or was Abu Dhabi a one off? Whatever it is, he was brilliant in race 2, passing so seamlessly under braking and slipstreaming cars with relative ease.

Oh dear I completely forgot about GP2 Asia, its a first for me - I've been very busy this week. I'll try and Sky + the repeat on Eurosport, if their is a repeat tonight. Will try and watch tomorrow's race live though.

Valsecchi has been impressive recently, he showed impressive race craft and speed in Abu Dhabi, and has continued that into Bahrain. If he is doing the main series, I wonder if he can maintain the speed that he has shown in the Asian series so far...

Yet again Eurosport got the timings wrong and the race started 20 mins later than listed, so i missed the last few laps. What happened to Sam Bird, waqs running in 8th?
Anyway Valsecchi is champion, congratulations to him, he's doen a great job, complete dominance.
Let's see if sprint race is shown on time....

Yay, race 2 is live sunday at 7.45am.

here's somthing to ponder, in last weeks Autosport, one of the Asia series DPR cars is up for sale. Now, this i think could mean one of two things, the series wont happen again this winter or they will use the new car, strange that only one car is for sale tho

i had heard it was happening next year

a shame really these are the best single seaters racing anywhere. I'd mandate they for all single seater classes and just change the engines.

Well the current GP2 chassis has been used in the main championship since 2007, so I suspect the change for the Asian series from the old spec to new spec is now due.

GP2 Asia has produced some of the most thrilling racing I've ever seen, I just wish the schedule had more races.

Well that safety car period 5 laps from the end livened things up somewhat. Cars nicely bunched together gave some great racing at the end. Don't know what Vietoris was thinking trying to half heartedly pass Kralev like that to cause the SC.
Martin Haven said from next time they will use the current main series chassis as GP2 will be due a new chassis. As already said it's a shame, these cars provide some great racing, the main series chassis' lost some of that when it was changed there.

You have to give it to Rossi, he never gives up. He is relentless in trying to overtake others.
