Should have left well alone... all this Ferrari stuff has damaged the series immensely...

Its all over, why don't A1GP just say: "look, we're up the shitter, don't bother".

I mean the season's schedule has not even be released, yet this time last year the series had already started. A1GP should stop making excuses and wasting everybody's time, A1GP become crap with the Ferrari package and the series schedule started to fall apart as early as last year when races were cancelled.

Quote :
"We have recently announced 19 teams who were ready to race in Australia," said Teixeira.

Really? So why hasn't a single driver been announced? Why haven't we heard any news of progress from the teams? Team GBR went under, Germany is probably gone. Who wants to invest in this complete mess? A complete joke.

Quote :
"I know they are still committed to racing in our unique series that pits nation versus nation.

LOL, unique? What's unique about it? A load of Ferrari chassis's painted in different colours? The teams that actually ran the cars were of European origin, their are no Indian, Chinese, Korean etc engineers. Apart from the driver and ownership, nothing else is really from developing countries - its all a load of good looking PR.

I used to like A1GP, but I'm tried of the endless excuses. To think that Texiera suggested that Bernie copied his medal idea and Bernie should buy A1GP! lol! Bernie would laugh in Texira's face and show him the annual profits of
F1. Razz Razz Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy

GP2 Asia is returning soon, so their will be open wheel winter motorsport. GP2 thrashes A1GP anyday.

Yep I don't know why they just admit defeat and give up the ghost. They keep claiming that the money is on it's way when it clearly isn't. The series currently has very little creditability left, and I can't see why anyone would want to invest in the series tbh. I think the concept could have worked under the right leadership, but that is something that the series has been seriously lacking since it was founded.

Exactly, its such a poorly managed series and after the first race was cancelled last year, and even in Zanvoort many teamd did not turn up - you know a series is doomed. I mean what is the USP? If you look beyond the nation v nation idea, it has little substance. I still maintain that the first three seasons were brilliant and I really enjoyed watching them, but the recession has basically wiped out A1GP and what is the point of continuing with a boring car, few teams and a shaky schedule.

Think it's all over. The rounds in China and Malaysia have been cancelled. Even if the season does start in South Africa in February, we're looking at just a six round schedule.

It's a shame but I agree with Sav - the novelty factor has worn off and the unique selling point just isn't there in a period of economic fragility. I would personally like to see it disappear as I think it would help IRL, GP2, World Series by Renault and even F2 and F3 somewhat. The Superleague formula is another one which baffles me - I just can't get my head round it. It seems to be an overcrowded market with regards to series at this sub-top level - I'd like to see it trimmed down somewhat.

This is interesting...

Quote :
This week's AUTOSPORT magazine reports that A1GP's administrator is hoping to sell the entire fleet of cars to someone wanting to continue the series, although the cars will need to be modified to meet the FIA's latest head-restraint and side-impact regulations.

No wonder they're cancelling races if the cars are illegal and they don't have any money to put it right!!

Quote :
...and the series' equipment has been put into storage after the lease on its hangar at Silverstone expired last week.

Well, that sounds about it then!

And I wonder who would want to continue the series? That really is a touch naive, a series in debt and financial problems, a broken schedule and a next to nothing fan base. Hmm, appealing.

No point of the championship returning in South Africa, it would be like the Zanvoort situation where some teams recieved their cars, and others had not - a complete farce. I think its best for A1GP to be put to bed. Lets salute the three seasons of A1GP with the Lola/Zytek package, those were great years and the championship was a pleasure to watch.

Apparently the series owes Ferrari over 5million, so the cars will be going nowhere until that money is paid, as they will have no engines otherwise. The creditability of the series is finished now in my view, and would need a new look if anyone does actually try to do something with the cars, which I can't see happening tbh.

Indeed, the first three seasons were great, and A1GP fast became one of my favourite series. But in the series last state, with the unappealing Ferrari cars and a championship that appeared to be organised by clowns. Then its no great loss, the series 4 is no great loss - but the first three seasons were.

And who exactly will want to buy even part of the assets? The safety car and medical cars will probably sell, but who wants a load of unloved racing cars from a series that is almost worthless?

Well I would imagine that they will want to try and sell it altogether, as can be seen on the auction site, but I reckon it will end up being broken down into smaller lots tbh. I reckon we should chip together and buy one of the Ferrari's and then go racing with it, although I'm not sure what series we could be in scratch scratch
