PostSubject: Sounds like A1GP is alive...   Sat Aug 22, 2009 7:48 am

A few people feared that because A1GP LTD went into liquidation, the series was over. Well this recent Autosport article does not suggest that:

Jani injured in mountain bike accident:

Quote :
Neel Jani expects to be sidelined for a month after injuring himself in a mountain biking accident near his home in Switzerland last week.

The 25-year-old, who won the 2007/8 A1GP title with Team Switzerland, broke his elbow and fractured his wrist in the incident. He was kept in hospital over night and had stitches on his forehead and around his right eye.

"I don't really remembered what happened," Jani told this week's AUTOSPORT. "I'd ridden up a hill near my house - and set a new personal best time - and I was on the way back. I'd already got out of the forest, so I'd done the dangerous downhill bit, and was back onto the normal road when it happened.

"It was next to a construction site, so maybe there was a piece of wood that I hit. I just remember looking at my helmet, which was completely broken, and a bus driver helping me get up because I couldn't explain where I was or what I was doing."

Jani is set to lead Switzerland's challenge in the next A1GP season, which begins at Surfers Paradise in Australia in October, and says he should recover in time to get back behind the wheel in early September.

"I've seen plenty of guys with cycling injuries that were a lot more complicated than these," he added. "Mine are quite straightforward, so I know pretty much exactly how long it's going to take to heal. I'll be fine in a month."

Well, I hope that Jani gets better. But more significantly, the bold paragraph suggests that A1GP is still all buttons go for Surfers Paradise. Hmm, lets hope that GBR have decided to stop being useless and hire a decent driver.

Well a lot of people are apparently unhappy at what has gone on with the liquidation of the A1GP series, which has meant that a new group has ended up with the cars and all the other bits for sod all, whereas a lot of suppliers and other people who were owed money have lost out.

Just read some of the comments here:-

Interesting, I think asking Lola for their original A1GP cars and Zytek for the engines would be a good idea. After all, the new car created dull racing, fans lost interest and teams lost out.

My only worry is that A1GP as an open wheel series does not have a particularly good future, I hope the series does race next season. Team Netherlands have been promoting the Assen race with the Ferrari car, so presumably they are still using it. I think an A1GP touring car series would be pukka. Big, gurgling V8's, rear wheel drive and little downforce.

Has anybody heard of any news on the 2009/2010 race schedule? Perhaps the series is dead after all, I mean only two races are confirmed and A1GP usually starts in late September, and it is now September 1st. Sad

Yep indeed, the website says that Surfers Paradise is going ahead. However, the Surfers weekend is going ahead anyway - with or without A1GP because of the V8 Supercars event. Assen in the Netherlands has also be confirmed but at the moment nothing else has been confirmed. Sad

We need winter motorsport!

I wonder about the rest of the schedule though, because it is pretty late to start reminding fans of the full schedule with around a month to go.

it is late but for a1gp the schudule changes often.

they sould invest in some formula master chassis (with an odd looking front wing) and the ferrari engine) then we've got a championship every country will want!

Sounds like it is going to be made as they go along, which is never a good idea from my experience.
