backwards engineering a dbr9 for gt1 2010 seems like the obvious choice, but making the dbr9 slower feels very odd, as for the v12 vantage who knows...

Well considering the FIA GT schedule will mainly conisist of high speed, sweeping corners - the longer wheelbase of the DBR9 will undoubtedly be more stable through high speed corners than the short wheelbase of the Vantage - which maybe a little looser through high speed corners.

The FIA GT uses tight and twisty tracks at which the Vantage would be more agile with its shorter wheelbase.

Very true, but how many twisty tracks actually exist on the FIA GT schedule, compared to circuits with more faster corners?

The majority of FIA GT tracks have fast and sweeping corners, and that will only likely to be more true when it comes a world championship.

Silverstone - mostly fast corners
Adria - mostly fast corners
Oschersleben - a mixture of slow and medium speed corners - Vantage would be good here compared to the DBR9.
Spa - fast corners
Budapest. Slow corners, the Vantage would be great around here
Algarve - fast corners
Paul Ricard HTTT - mostly fast corners
Zolder - mainly fast corners

Against the Corvette's with their longer wheelbase, the Vantage would be at a disadvantage. The MC12 has a long wheelbase too. The V12 Vantage is an epic car, but the DBR9 would be better.

shows what you know!

adria is all second or first gear corners and has 5 hairpins
Oschersleben has a couple of very fast corners, the triple th chicane onto the back straight is 3rd or 4th gear sometimes.
algarve is a good mix of fast, medium and slow speed corners
Paul Ricard some fast, some slow
Zolder has some slow corners as well and 2 or 3 fast ones.
Spa has some slow corners and eau rouge and pouhon and blauinchimont as fast corners

So you've missed out the other circuits then.

The fact of the matter is, is that the DB9's wheelbase is not that much longer than the Vantage's wheelbase, so the Vantage would not really have a large advantage in the slow speed corners but it allows the DBR9 to be quicker in the high speed corners, where a lot of time can be lost. The MC12 and Corvette rule the show and have long wheelbases.

Except to say a Saleen won the first round and the Corvettes needed a relaxation in restrictor size to make them competetive at Oscherslaben, before which they most definately were not ruling the show.

More here: http://www.pistonheads.com/news/default.asp?storyId=20289

Sounds as if its down to the FIA and Nissan whether we see the gorgeous DBR9 in FIA GT, personally I wouldn't mind. Sportscar racing did not feature many DB7's, if any, so therefore I don't see this as a major issue. But the DBR9 does sound the business. Cool

In the flesh it has a superb wail, I prefer to the farting noise that the Corvette makes, even though that the Vette sounds amazing.

Through its participation in the 2010 FIA GT1 World Championship HEXIS Racing AMR aims to further consolidate its partnership with Aston Martin Racing.

The article doesn't say how they intend to do that.
