Nobody has commented on next season starting at Surfer's Paradise in Oz.

Is that because none of us believe it'll actually happen???

What a mess A1GP has got itself into.

Interestingly, read this:

Quote :
Reports in the British press suggest that the operating arm of A1GP has gone into liquidation
http://www.sutton-images.com/ (on the right and side)

If this is true, it is hard to see how the Surfers Paradise race will go ahead. Also, I wonder how many teams are interested in competing? Last season would have put me right off, it was impossible to budget because of all the race cancellations and changes, then cars not being ready either.

it's a shame because i actually liked a1 gp, the old car the racing and the winner calendar. I hope it does but.....

the cars should be fine now, as for teams who knows.

I thought A1GP was fantastic, but last season completely put me off. GP2 Asia was a far superior winter series, with amazing racing. If GP2 Asia had more rounds, it would take A1GP down instantly in my eyes.

I agree. Make them all V8's with no aero tabs, great racing and affordable budgets.

ok, stock v8's (realible, shouldn't need more than 2 a year) fairly standard cars and like you say no aero rubbish (but maybe wings on the back) in national colours, excellent.

I like that. Although last weekend's DTM races proves that aero pieces like flaps did not necessarily cause dull racing. But lets go with no aero pieces apart froma rear wing and a big V8 that sounds like a human being being attacked by wasps.

Speedcar got scrapped the other week too.

last weeks dtm was good because of the track, being 2 braking zones and a chincane, no aero needed as proved by the eurof3 teams (some of) running without a rewar wing

True, although most series need circuits with decent passing opportunities. Hopefully our fantasy A1GP series wouldn't... Smile

I think the track selection in series 3 was ace. In series four, they swooped Zulhi with Chengdu for the Chinese round, and Durban for Kylami for the South African round. Kylami may have hosted some F1 races ages ago, but their are too many corners for the racing to be truly interesting. Durban was like A1GP's highlight, a bit like Monaco is F1's highlight. Durban was rubbish and crazy, but I loved it all the same.

I suppose the new car could not have come at a worse time, just when the recession hit the world, make cash-strapped team learn a completely new car. I don't like the Ferrari chassis or engine noise either, the chassis is just like any other open wheeler and the engine sounded a bit too smooth and sensible for my likening. The old Zytek unit sounded unsophisticated but sounded sensational.

A1GP lacked the sparkle for that I loved it for, especially when GP2 provides vastly better racing.

Just read about this on the Surfers Paradise webiste.

It only costs $35 AU to get to see the racing, that is a mega price

V8 Supercars
A1 GP
Aussie Supercars
Mini Challenge

+ other stuff

All for 17.50, shame it costs 500+ to get there

Where are the old A1 cars? They surely can't have just disappeared into the ether?

That is a good deal for Surfers Paradise, doesn't the F1 race cost about 50? Bargain compared to this country!

Ah yes, I still am fond of the Lola/Zytek package. Looked unique, produced fantastic racing and sounded incredible. I only only say the latter about the new Ferrari car. Sad

+1

Ferrari basically ruined A1 GP, or Tony Taxiera for signing the contract with them. However i can see why he did it. Who better to show off the series than Ferrari?

I will probably go again if it is at Brands

In theory, having Ferrari was brilliant at the time wasn't it? But then last season we saw the actual racing, oh dear. If overtaking improves and the field improves, I would certainly go to Brands. But if they stick with this car, or make no chages to improve racing - then I cannot see the point of going.

The old car was miles better. Crying or Very sad
