What great rules, I am really happy that turbocharged cars are returning to BTCC - and 300 bhp. That is about 25 bhp more than the majority of S2000-spec cars. Also, I like how Alan Gow is not trying to equalize petrol and diesel cars - the WTCC could learn a lot from that. All diesels do is drive up costs, cause bigger time gaps and bigger arguements. I hope this new generation of touring car can be more affordable for all teams. Surley this will make it attractive for car makers too? I think car makers need an incentive to build something new, rather than just make an S2000 spec engine.

I bet you that WTCC will try and mirror this in some way. One thing that is a little sad, is front wheel drive cars only. What????? No BMW! BMW are an integral part of touring car racing and BTCC. Sad Components will be much cheaper though, all in all - great rules.

I like the fact that the cars will be family-sized saloons, rather than hatchbacks. In my opinion, hatchbacks are not really touring cars in the true sense - and have been largely unsuccessful in BTCC. No diesels w00t

Well the BTCC said that they were not going to follow the WTCC, which is going to a universal engine by 2011, so that all teams have equal power, and therefore any differences have to made to the car itself, rather than just creating a more powerful engine.

Interesting that they got rid of rear-wheel drive, as I always thought that added another element to the competition, and I wonder if this will make the series a little bit boring. But knowing the BTCC I can't see that happening tbh.

the rules are too tight, close racing needs bigger gaps and more freedom. this is the wrong way imo. and the spec engine by 2011 for wtcc will kill it..

it's time that racing goes back 30 years, more open rules.

I like the rules. However I believe that rear wheel drive brings some interesting variation to BTCC, to compare against front wheel drive cars. However just having front wheel drive is a bit dissapointing personally, can you really exclude BMW - considering how popular the 3-Series has been in BTCC over the years.

More open rules would just mean a massive surge in costs, which small teams would not really apreciate. Only car makers would really welcome more open rules, smaller teams at the moment are doing very well - and that should continue. I doubt many in BTCC wants open rules like 30 years ago.

I think I have changed my mind, mostly privateers is good for BTCC - and it is sustainable too.

look at tom chiltons team, with the focuses, there getting better all the time and there a small team.

I belive in privateers. because there smart. they don't spend more they haven't got.

turning a basic road car into a racer is easier than building some off the way like these rules.
