Formula 2 starts this weekend, this is supposed to be an affordable feeder series to F1. The driver line up looks promising, with the likes of Alex Brundle and Jolyon Palmer competing.

Watch race 1 at 5 pm on Saturday on Eurosport. And race 2 live at 12:45 pm also on Eurosport. The racing is supposed to be brilliant.

Affordable or not, I think there should only be one series between F1 and F3 so I'm mystified by F2's existence.

Anyway, I hope it provides could racing and a good tuition for up-and-coming drivers.

Yes, yet another single seater series!! Formula Master is still on the WTCC bill as well, so we can get to see which looks better/more entertaining. Have set the Sky+ anyway, will have loads of racing to watch on Monday!!

I think there are too many single seater series too, I mean why do we need F2 and Formula Masters? confused

Here are the qualifying times: http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/75686

Hmm, I will tune in over the weekend. If the racing is dire I won't bother, and will just continue watching Formula Masters. Formula Masters is superb. thumbsup

i'd make formula master f1 but ghive them more power and never change it

if f2 costs 200,000 quid and gp2 cost 1.5 mil; why bother with gp2. rumour is euro f3 costs 1. something mil

Did you see Pau? How those cars produced such good racing on a street circuit is very impressive.

I thought the racing was okay, there was lots of diving around - but in terms of actual passing - F2 was not that impressive. One could argue the race was boring, for single seaters which are supposed to provide decent racing. I prefer Formula Masters.

And if F2 is supposed to be a direct stepping stone to F1, then why is Formula Masters acting as an F1 support race in Hungary and Spa - and F2 does not?

like you say it was ok, It is a direct spetting stone to f1, where they race dosen't matter that much, as the prize (one of them) is the licence you need to do f1.

Robert wickens didn't help things much by running off though.

Before you go super critial of it, 1) they have had 1 race around and tight circuit and they did manage to overtake. 2) They had just 2 test days one of which was wet before they got to valencia 3) nobody rcaes that hard on saturday then there is another race the next day 4) they have brno and spa next the racing isn't any better there then complain. Untill then give it a chance.

Watched F2 race 1 yesterday and the 2nd FMaster race, at the moment FMaster was much better racing, but as has already been said F2 is new, so hopefully will be more exciting next time out.

Cannot FIM and F2 just merge? You could have the cost of F2, and the cars of FIM. The FIM cars seem pretty basic, I am sure with some effort, that 195,000 would still be possible.

In terms of semantics, though, "F2" makes more sense than "GP2". Bit like the football used to make sense years ago when you started your league progression in "Division 4" and aimed for "Division 1"... not all this "Championship" and "Premiership" rubbish.

But F2/GP2 is ultimately a fight between Bernie and Max.

Give Torro Rosso a call... there's a fella called Sebastian in F2... if Mr Loeb ain't prepared to join the team this fella might be their only chance for 2010.
