PostSubject: BTCC - Oulton Park   Sat May 23, 2009 6:45 pm

After the mixed conditions of Donington lets hope we get a dry weekend, (saying that cos i'm going, don't fancy getting rained on again). Last year the Cheshire round attracted 35000 on race day, no doubt helped by the hot weather.
James Nash has joined the grid with RML

Tempus must be disappointed as i think they were hoping to get him in their 2nd car.

I really must get down down to Oulton Park sometime, BTCC is usually brilliant at Oulton. Next year perhaps. Smile

I went for the first time in 2007, looking forward to exploring the circuit a bit more this time.

Some good racing today from what I seen. Rob Collard with drive of the day in race 3, Starting from 20th and finishing 4th. After passing all them cars with no problems, I half expected him to get past Matt Neal but then Matt being Matt take Collard off just for passing him. But he had to settle for 4th in the end.

Big crash in the Ginetta G50 race with Carl Breeze and another driver getting checked over at hospital. It sounds like are both relatively ok.

Cor blimey, race 2 was sensational. Plato drove a brilliant race, keeping Matt Neal must have been an incentive enough! Plato made no errors, beautifully placed his car in the right places and did not give into Matt Nealís little taps and nudges. That race just proved what a class driver Plato is Ė I donít think there are many drivers who could have done that.

Race 1 was rather unfortunate for RML, Turkington got an amazing start and nailed both Chevroletís off the line. Plato was close enough, but the BMW has great race pace and Turkington won. Giovanardi is starting to eat into Nealís championship lead, which is fantastic.

Collard was sensational in race 3, wow. The way he just breezed past cars was very impressive.

Nick must have had a great day out, glorious weather and glorious racing.

Yes, we got home at 11.30 last night, weekend was fantastic, weather was sooooo hot. Watched yesterday from between Old Hall and Cascades, not a lot of incident there apart from the major one in G50's with Carl Breeze and Mark Proctor. I missed the actual incident, but it was really nasty and i hope Mark is gonna be ok, it didn't look good. Breeze was moving, which would have been a relief to his mum who was watching there.
Will update more a bit later and photos will be up when i get a chance to go through them.

Down to Oulton Park????

Surely it's "up"? Cheshire or somewhere isn't it?

Unless you've moved to Scotland...

Is Alex Zanardi still in WTCC?

He inspires me... most of us complain about aching joints, he's missing quite a large proportion of his, yet still keeps going.

Inspiring character...

Well, nobody's perfect!

Now, is Oulton Park "down" from Reading - therein lies the real issue.

that depends

i would consider oulton park up from reading

just like i would consider london down from birmingham for example

I'd go by the map

if you try it any ohter way it makes no scence at all.

Oulton park is up from Reading. But I would still say down. Infact apart from Knockhill I have to travel down to every circuit.

But what I am more interested in is, Does anyone have anymore info on Carl Breeze and Mark Proctor? I have seen on different forums, different outcomes.

Someone is saying Carl has a broken leg, Others say he hasn't.

Then Somebody who says he knows Mark personally is saying he isn't going to race again after that crash. That would be a real shame if it's true. Having to stop doing what you love, But it could of been a lot worse I suppose.

Oh what marvellous geographical knowledge I have! Wink

As cerca says, Zanardi was in destruction mode yesterday - it was brilliant to watch. I am not sure about the Ginetta crash. Sad

+ 1 completely. At least spectators know what is going on in regards to ballast levels, who knows what is going on with WTCC? The FIA announce a different decision every week.

BTCC has brilliant racing too.

Havent been able to find any sound info out about this. Happened right in front of Elaine, i wasnt at the trackside at that point, so we don't have pix of it. Saw Mark Proctor in the bar the night before as well. Certainly wouldn't surprise me if it ended Proctor's career, but ultimately, lets hope they are both gonna recover.

I suppose on the positive side if you don't have any legs you don't have to worry about breaking them.

There was some fantastic racing on Sunday. However, it's a shame that plonker Matt Neal insists on 'nerfing' all and sundry out of his way, although JP proved to be made of sterner stuff and didn't lose control, despite several thumps up the jacksey from Neal. Neal also hit Johnny Adam's Airwaves BMW, spinning him out and losing him a load of places. Red flag
Neal then had the cheek to suggest that it was Plato's fault that he hit him up the rear so many times as, in Neal's words, Plato "was playing the game, braking at different points each lap" !! boring He should take a leaf out of Gonzo's book on how to drive as, in the third race, Plato was right behind Neal for practically the whole race and never once touched Neal. I'm sure Plato was tempted to return the compliment to Neal, but he resisted. bravo

Rant over ! Smile

+ 1 completely.

I especially felt sorry for Johnny Adams, it was so great to see that team doing well. But Neal just had to bash him out of the way Rolling Eyes , well Team Airwaves don't have a manufacturer budget like Vauxhall do. Neal just acts like he is the innocent one all the time with Plato: "Oh look at me, I didn't do anything wrong".

In reality, when Plato as at Seat both drivers used to bash and nudge each other. Its no good just blaming Plato, but since joining RML Plato is just driving his own races for the majority of he time. Neal didn't really need to make contact with Plato, because that move at the hairpin was highly unlikely to have worked. I hope Neal gets a really crap car next year and gets bashed around. I've always been a supporter of Jason Plato, he is my kind of racing driver. There's nothing sly about him, he will bash anybody he wants and will not make out like he's some kind of saint.

Yeah, in race 3 Plato could have bashed into Neal easily. I have always said that Neal is a grea driver, but I hate him - Plato far better.

Check Plato out: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WqNtQsIa2Nw

Plato is class!!!

Exactly, and really he needs to realise that Giovaradi is better than himself - he has won way more touring car title than Neal has. Neal isn't as great as he likes to think he is.

The Ginetta G50 crash with Breeeze and Proctor from a spectator's view.

I've only put this link up knowing that both drivers are relatively ok considering.
