PostSubject: Le Mans Series: 1,000Km of Spa, May 8-10, 2009   Wed May 06, 2009 3:57 pm

Spa...on the road to Le Mans

Peugeot has chosen the ultra-fast circuit of Spa-Francorchamps –
where the best lap posted by the N°7 908 in 2008 represented an
average speed of almost 210kph – to fine-tune its preparations for its
prime objective of the 2009 season, the Le Mans 24 Hours.
A record number of five Zytek-built cars will contest this Sunday’s
race.
This will be the most ever seen in one race from the Repton-based
manufacturer, a fact that underlies the increasingly popularity of its
latest design.
A third of the new Ginetta-Zytek GZ09S cars is to join the two that
performed so brilliantly at the season’s opening round in Barcelona.
Both the Zytek 07S that contested last year’s championship will also be
on the grid.

A legendary event in its own right, the 1000Km/621.3 mile race at Spa
harkens back as far as 1954. Despite multiple facility changes, the Circuit
de Spa-Francorchamps, 7.003 Km/4.35 miles in length, remains an iconic
track the world over.

Just to correct you William, those times are CET. Eurosport's coverage starts at 11:45 UK time and again at 5 pm. Smile

I hope Peugeot v Aston can create at least some excitement.

No doubt it will be a close battle again, hopefully the finish will be as close as the first round at Barcelona.

People in F1 are complaining about a two tier series, what about this? Peugeot basically miles ahead of everybody else. At Le Mans they should have a championship called 'diesel' - the petrol cars have no chance whatsoever. http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/75178

Aston will get taken to the cleaners tomorrow too. Sleep Sleep Sleep

I'll watch the first half an hour though, just to see how far Peugeot can get ahead of everybody else.

Well, it should be a fairly eventful first few laps with 4 prototypes stuck at the back of the grid Shocked
Definitely worth watching I'd say.

Could be, but that is hardly a great battle. The P1 cars will just fly past with ease.

We'll see. They will be attempting to pass cars that will be involved in their own little battles not interested in making it easier for the faster cars.

I dunno about LMS, last years Silverstone race (when I met you William) was great. Drivers were actually racing and battling. Generally whenever I watch LMS (in most cases), I don't see interesting racing. They just follow each other and are miles apart. Sleep Sleep

The massive diesel advantage does not help matters.

IMO, there should be two classes. All prototypes and all GT's.

They do this in Grand-Am. The result: much closer competition. You can imagine all the GT cars in one class, the differences would be tiny.

Wrong m8. I am an ALMS, Le Mans and Grand-Am fan. They provide GOOD RACING. They are endurance, who says endurance has to be boring? It isn't, and these series prove that. I understand them perfectly fine.

LMS is the only one I don't really see the appeal of. I have said this before, LMS: boring - all other sportscar series - great.

I watch all four wheel motorsport, in fact. But it is clear that LMS is one of the most Sleep series.

I do want to know though, what is so attractive about LMS then? Maybe I am missing something? confused Its just I don't see much close racing, I understand LMS fine. But other sportscar series provide far better racing.

Racing series must have the x factor, the desire to watch something. LMS has not got that at all (IMO).

Oh okay just to please you guys, I love LMS really. Wink Laughing

well ALMS has varity of races 2:45, 12 hours, 4hours..etc

Grand-Am is good series and has brilliant racing but its as i said all about keep cost down....have steel brakes, same tires etc

Le mans is like the daytona 24 its once a year special race.

LMS is good series but if you not into it your not into it.......

We hope your going to be up for the whole 24 hours Sav?
