This is absolutely fantastic news. Team GBR are one of the worst managed teams in modern racing history, their driver pickings beggars belief. First they pick dreary Robbie Kerr, who didn’t win anything. Then Jarvis comes along, he wins Team GB’s first race, what do they do? Dump him for Kerr in the next race!

Jarvis then won at Zanvoort again, but they stupidly rotate drivers again. They never learnt from their lesson, DO NOT rotate drivers and try and keep Jarvis. It’s the teams stupid decisions that have meant that GBR have never contended for the title. Who wants to sponsor a team that never contends for the title?

Going bust? Oh well, a poorly run team – they don’t deserve to survive. I chuckled when Katie Clements (team principal for GBR) criticised Ireland – but at least Ireland are contending for the title.

Team GBR have ultimately always been losers, it pains me to say. Team GBR needs to be run by someone like RML or Mclaren, companies who know what they are doing.

They did a poor job, therefore they don't deserve to race. The end. lol!

rml running the team would be awesome.

a1 gp is not a series for pay drivers, if they have a sponsor maybe but british companys do not spend enough on motorsport.

they should have put the ferarrrrrrrrrrri engine in the lola, it was possible and lola had even respeced the car, but the it went to their heads and we had the debacle that was zandvoort.

I do agree with your last paragraph, the new chassis is boring looking anyway. The Lola chassis looked ungainly, but it was a unique-looking single seater. Their are redeeming styling features about the new chassis. And keeping it would have been so much cheaper for teams, A1GP is hardly in demand.

It was the team's fault, if they had picked Jarvis after he won at Mexico - they could have actually won series three. I wonder how many other teams Texiera will have to bankroll? I can imagine others are in trouble too, a lot of cars in A1GP carry very little sponsorship...

Erm, I must have been at a different Brands Hatch meeting that you last May. I distinctly remember Robbie Kerr almost clinching the A1GP title, and he definitely won a race too on that day... I rate him over this year's drivers...

Until this season Team GBR have always been title contenders. If that's what makes a loser I would not mind being one...

What do you mean, 'almost' clinching the title? Switzerland has 168 points last year, Britain had 126 points - ?????? They have been runners up each year, they never had a realistic chance. They kept Kerr on for far too long, Jarvis won their first race then they switched him for Kerr again - great decision. Rolling Eyes

Then this season, GBR pick a sportscar driver, then somebody who has not been racing for a year. I couldn't care less about Team GBR, Jarvis was the only driver I liked - they can get stuffed. Very Happy

But Watts adapted well to Porsche 911's, and that clear to see at his performance at Kylami. Saying that, he did a better job than Dan Clarke - Watts scored a podium in China. But still, the team needed somebody like Jarvis. Sad

Indeed, Mr chocolate could have been good. Good image for A1GP too, a well known F1 driver coming to the series.

Crikey

Bit shocked by thatin certain respects, but in others i am not.

Ferrari killed what was a good series IMO.

Although with the economy as it is i don't know. Brands for BTCC then

lola actually did the work to make the ferrari fit, and a1 still built the new car which wasn't ready in time.

^^^^ Sorry to hear that dave, however you maybe okay...

....If A1GP went bankrupt on the Saturday of Brands Hatch, then why did A1GP announce Assen on the 2009/2010 calendar a couple of weeks ago? Hmm…

Anyway, I pretty much agree with what is being said. For me, A1GP was all about thrilling racing and silly accidents, I liked A1GP because the cars were slightly crude, but so entertaining. But then came the Ferrari chassis, with more downforce aids and a fairly dull sounding engine compared to the Zytek motor.

For me, last season lacked any sort of sparkle that set out A1GP from other series. I mean if there is little overtaking and the cars sound dull, why should I watch? It is unacceptable for any series to only have half the grid because chassis’s are not ready (Zanvoort), and what about the race cancellations? Thw whole thing was a complete and utter shambles. And even worse, the long periods between races, because so many races dropped off the calendar, it left big gaps in the calendar. I appreciate what Adam Carroll achieved, but A1GP was crap last season.

The great thing about the Lola/Zytek package, it stood out from the rest. Most single seaters look so similar these days, and the Lola looked unique. Anybody who heard the Zytek engine in real life will confirm it sounded sensational.

Who the hell is actually a genuine fan of A1GP? GP2 Asia is a far, far better open wheel winter series. I think part of A1GP’s problem, was that the market was far too crowded, with far too many single seater series. The ‘nation v nation’ idea in my opinion, was not enough to sell the series to the public. A series cannot be based around one strapline, their needs to be more substance than that. And last season, their was no substance whatsoever.

And what happened to that junior A1GP series? Was that cancelled too? Its probably the most disorganised racing series in modern history
